People think that a MMA has to take a Boxer down to win but that is not really true. The new breed of MMA fighters (not like Royce Gracie) are extremely well versed in all fighting disciplinies but many of the top guys just shine more in others. But they are still training all the time in grappling, submissions, take downs, avoiding takedowns, fighting chest to chest, top position, bottom position, Boxing and Muay Thai.

In last season UFC sponsored Ultimate Fighter there was an Ex-Golden Glove ex-professional boxer who got his ass whooped by a better well rounded MMA fighter. A boxers stance is dangerous vs a Muay Thai fighter which could demolish his lead leg with a couple of kicks especially an inside thigh kick.

An elite MMA fighter p4p would beat an elite boxer p4p.

This has to be one of the most ******ed questions ever.

      Seriously, are you joking?

While reading people's posts, the funniest thing I read was, "Boxers are taught to keep their balance, so a boxer would never go down!"

Yes boxers are taught to keep their balance, while throwing punches and avoiding. Are boxers taught to keep their balance when a guy who takes people down to the ground for a living grabs both your legs, and then proceeds to beat the living **** out of you?

Even a kick-boxer would have his way with a boxer both standing. I don't think he would like the repeated kicks to the midsection / thighs.

Get a boxer whos been training 2 years vs a muay thai whos done 2 year or MMA and boxer looses.

Its pretty simple logic. Picture it this way, if Danny Williams vs Vitali were to happen again, this time Danny can grab, danny would easily win despite Vitali being a much better boxer. Skelton, not the best out there but well known enough, he got owned by an MMA'er. Thats because its much harder to KO someone instantly ala TuavsRuiz whilst 90% of them time, grappler vs striker ends up on ground almost immediately, soon as its on ground its over.

Ali vs Inoniki was a draw. Ali = greatest boxer, Inoniki was an old overweight wrestler, undeveloped in MMA way. Now Imagine Inoniki had decent enough striking defense so that he oculd block a few punches or walk through 1-2 and then grab ali. Also these days an MMA'er would simply charge down to the leg and get a takedown, over.

In the streets vs normal people, id take PBF to beat up 5 people. Id have a hard time picking a grappler over 3, you cant do much when your on the ground grappling someone whilst being kicked in the head.

BTW Im a boxer, recently sparred some muay thai guys, they whooped my ass. I could outbox any of them but when legs are involved you just get lost in what naturally comes to you.

im a boxer. i've watched mma and i've grappled with cage fighters.. i know how to armbar you from the guard.. but i'm still a boxer. how do you know b-hop wouldnt knee you in the nuts, elbow you in the face, and headbutt you? you don't know what any of these guys know about fighting in the street. to me, it's talent as a fighter. how much did cro-cop know about grappling?? NOTHING. and he has the best sprawl in MMA.

An MMA fighter would probably takeout the boxer, but not in a confined situation.

The boxer can actually take the fight, with a mentality to not think he's fighting a 10 rounder, but stepping in immediatley with his fav combinations and throwing that power shot. Lights Out !!!

But in the end, it's the prowess of the individual. A good percentage of MMA fighters ain't got real martial arts skills, except to brawl. Which actually embarrasses the real martial arts practitioners.

I saw an MMA fighter one time challenge a boxer in the same gym, the boxer said he didn't know how to wrestle. So the MMA guy said "**** it then man, let's just do strikes, stand up, fists only." The boxer started laughing then said "only we can use those little gloves you guys wear."

Oh man, that MMA guy didn't know when to quit, the only reason it was stopped after about 4 minutes was because 2 of the MMA's teeth got knocked out and it was pretty bloody everywhere from his nose and mouth. The boxer had a couple of red spots on his face, and that was it.

are you thinking that martial arts is the kung fu and karate stuff because that is very incorrect

and the MMAer has more skills than a boxer, an MMAer can punch grapple wrestle and do all that and a boxers skills are limited with their hand

No doubt Sapp is a physical specimen, but from what Ive seen all he throws is clubs. A much smaller guy knocked his ass down twice in the 1st round with short counter punches. Any one of the top 10 heavyweight boxers right now would knock him out. Boxers would easilly be able to counter those clubs he throws.

Yeah, I have to disagree man.

Chuck Lidell's sprawl is ten times better than Mirko's.......and I don't understand why you'd imply Mirko has no grappling experience. He was a counter ********* mercenary, and was trained in different martial arts forms, and was a gifted high school athlete.

boxers use their hands only, even in a street fighting mentality.

MMAers use every part of their body as a weapon.

a MMA fighter would definatly beat a boxer in a street fight.
