there's really only 2 fighters that were african american aside from floyd that would have meant anything.

nate campbell at 135 and shane mosley at 147.

he only had 1 fight at 135 before oscar accelerated his weight division rise prematurely.

nate campbell would have been a better opponent than david diaz but hindsight is 20/20.

arum planned on him fighting diaz at 135 since before campbell beat juan diaz.

that's why diaz was on the undercard of pac-marquez 2 only a couple of weeks after diaz-campbell.


mosley he could have fought at 147 instead of cotto but cotto and mosley were #1 and #2 in the rankings so not much difference there except cotto was also more money.
out of 50 plus fights , pac has only fought 5 times above 130. not too many great african american fighters during his time in those divisions. certainly not around 2001-2007 after he started fighting in the u.s.

i'm just glad pac fought cotto instead of shane. i can't just imagine the backlash we can get from the more passionate and superior in number cotto fans had pac chose to fight shane...we would have never heard the end of it. at least mosley fans are more restrained and few in numbers. the only people complaining really about pac's choice of cotto instead of shane are the floyd fans for some ****** reasons of course.

from how you posted that it seemed like you're referring to african-americans as fighting a certain way.

i don't like people saying all african-americans are boxer/counter-punchers anymore than i like people saying mexicans are unskilled , tough brawlers.

I completely understand this point. Obviously all one group doesn't fight a certain way. if you got that from my original post then I'll make it more clear. Again it isn't about better its about building the economic value of a fighter. You don't do this by exposing fighters to styles they can't handle too early.

My only complaint is that its for a belt neither one earned a shot at. other than that its becoming an interesting fight.
