Boxing is highly effective in a street fight, and even more so if against someone trained in MMA and who would rely on a takedown.

A good, well-trained boxer could sidestep and find the right angle to come in with a huge right (if orthodox) to the back of the head.

Naturally that's not permitted in the UFC and quite rightly so, it's far too dangerous. But in a street fight then yes, boxing can be highly effective.

Those full of **** MMA fans saying boxing is useless in a street fight know less about their own sport than boxing fans know about MMA.

Anyone with any common sense could see today that Edgar beat the **** out of Penn (UFC118)today not because he was incredible on the mat (he wasnt) Not because his kicks were bone breakers, but because Edgar's boxing skills were so above and beyond Penn's that Penn couldn't get close to Edgar without eating 4 or 5 punches to the face.

So they can all talk about how MMA is more representative of a streetfight all they want. The only thing I gotta say is that the lightweight UFC champ is a champ because he relied on boxing to completely outclass a fighter some MMA fans regard as one of the best.

I am not going to say that I am some kind of street brawler I sure as hell am not. But from my limited experience I can tell you correct boxing technique will give you a leg up on the mere seconds it takes for the average street fight to end.

many MMA fans always says in street fights you are better served by grappling skills......... I don't know in other parts of the world but from what I've seen in most cases when the fight has reached the point where both men are on the floor it means, A) they both don't know how to fight and are now wrestling each other to exhaustion. or B) Someone lacked correct fighting technique and is now laying on the floor getting pummeled by someone who had more sound technique.

I've never been in a street fight where guys go to the ground and don't get stomped on. And I been in plenty of them and I box.

And in a street fight, you can Bite. I don't care how tough you are as soon as you bring me down and I bite you you won't want to be that close again.

If that don't work I'll grab the nuts. Street fight and skill have nothing to do with each other.

This just shows you that MMA fans are in there own little worlds that have never understood boxing. MMA fans have no idea about street fighting as most have never been in one themselves for starters! Pathetic.
                Absolutely right!

If you want something relatively easy to pick up something that will help you on the street and keep you fit. Boxing is the place to go.

If you train boxing and the mugger trying to mug you isnt trained in boxing or MMA, you will have the edge and thats what matters at the end of the day.

MMA trained fighters will of course have the edge over a boxer.

I've never seen a street fight end with an arm bar, triangle, or rear naked choke hold.

I've never even seen a high guard, low guard or butterfly.

But I have seen fools get knocked the **** out whether it be by fist or foot.

The UFC is a terrible gauge for what would happen between boxer vs wrestler even in mma. They don't allow knees when your opponent is on the ground so you can't knee them in the face when they shoot for your legs, which is obviously a natural deterrent. The rules favour wrestlers.

                      Example Vovchanchyn vs Nutter II

In addition to kneeing a guy when he shoots for your legs in a street fight you could elbow to the back of his head, neck, spine etc. There's no rules. I'm not saying a wrestle couldn't be successful getting a takedown but to look at the UFC and think that is accurate is ill advised.
