A fighter becoming a star could be for many different reasons imo.
For example, some fighters have exciting styles, some have big personalities, some have a big following based on where they are from.
There are alot of things that can make a fighter a star.Comment

That's another reason why some are so big. Pacquiao and Hatton come to mind.Last edited by 'Sugar' Freddi; 08-23-2010, 12:59 PM.Comment

The right promotional company backing you up helps alot. Exposure is the best way in interviews not only in the sport but outside of it, commercials, etc. Some boxer have to learn how to speak in public. Some guys just have that charisma. Winning especially dramatic KOs will also attract a following.Comment

alot of variables have to be filled for one prospect to become a star
1. the right promotional company
2. charisma/personality
3. a devout fanbase
4. international marketability
5. consistent performance
6. timing ie. must have other names in the era to fightComment

Not being afraid to shoot your mouth off can be an advantage. EDIT I mean when you're an established fighter with top skills.
We all remember this is pretty much the best thing about the end of Tyson's career. He was spot on. That press conference was international front page news. Imagine of Wlad did something similar:

Sadly the actual talent is further down the totem pole. The bottom line is there have been many fighters with tons of talent, skill, wins, etc., but if the people do not want to see you, then do not expect to be on the big stage anytime soon.I was reading at larryx's thread and this came to my mind.
How do you become a star in the sport of boxing? You got stars like De La Hoya, Tyson, Trinidad, Hatton, Pacquiao, Mayweather, and others, who became HUGE, boxers that really transcended boxing.
So, I'm asking, how do you become a star?
People need to be spoon fed a reason to like you or want to buy a ticket to see you. If they like how it taste, they'll keep on eating it.
Wether your marketability is to be the hero or the heel, or the feel good story, or something that the masses can relate to, all of this equals marketability.
Stars aren't born, they are made. Again, it's sad to know that just having talent isn't good enough. Not in all cases, but these days it seems to be more true.Comment

Andre Ward has "IT" IMO, some may not like his style in the ring but Ward has it all, GREAT Charisma, EXCELLENT Interviewing Skills and a Gold Medals to go with all that
he wins that Super Six Tournament then he is going to be the next Superstar in Boxing IMO, it will also depend on how well Goossen promotes himComment
