I'm not exactly clear on your stance... so are you saying he's great or not. I understand you're saying that for a 2 year period he was one of the best heavyweights ever... but what about as a whole?
The Great Tyson Debate

You measure fighters greatness on longevity and avenging defeats so Lennox and Vander are greater ... but on a 'who beats who' I'd honestly put my money on Tyson ( 86 - 88 ) over anybody ... and I do mean anybodyComment

Mike Tyson never defeated a HEAVYWEIGHT of any consequence in his career. Sure, he KO’d Spinx for the title, but lets not forget Spinks was a natural light heavyweight. Aside from Spinx, who else was there that he defeated that worth worth a crap? Bonecrusher Smith? Please.
The “good” heavyweights of Tyson’s time all beat him, and beat him soundly. Does anyone remember the Ear Eating Contest with Holyfield? How about the supposed Brit with the glass jaw that absolutely destroyed Tyson?
Why people would even fathom Tyson being one of the all-time greats is beyond me. Sure he had power in both hands and was very aggressive. His defense was average, due to his head movement. His conditioning was horrible, along with a non-existent jab or any counterpunching ability. Also, Tyson had a chin like a 6 year old.
I’m sorry to say, but the people who love Tyson and think he was God’s gift to the heavyweight division really need to go back and watch the fights and especially WHO he fought. They might actually reconsider their argument.
so your saying that Larry
Holmes was nothing?Comment

Tyson OWNED Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield in sparring sessions in 1984, which was four years before he became a walking zombie and one-punching-hoping fool and 11 years before he came out of prison as an overly-muscular freakshow and human punching bag.[/QUOTE]
He beat lennox lewis and evander holyfield in sparring sessions!!! NO WAY, THAT ALONE MAKES HIM TOP FIVE ALL TIME.
are you kidding me??? who gives a **** what happened in 1984, tyson beat a bunch of nobodys for 2 years, and then dominated a weak heavyweight division until 1990, to be generous.
He then had a "great" comeback, losing to all of his credible competition and two no contests due to testing positive for marijuana. That folks, is a quality career.
He had alot of people scared and unified a weak heavyweight division for a few years. COng****, but not top ten of all timeComment

Mike beat Larry Holmes to death.
And he knocked out Trever Berbick
silly. Both these guys beat Ali.
If you beat the men who beat Ali
than you are better than Ali himself.
Mike is the greatest of all time.Comment

I dunno about Mike Tyson but Lennox Lewis was the most overrated Heavyweight of all time IMO...
It took him EIGHT ****in rounds to knockout a OLD SHOT Mike Tyson that my grandma can beat up...
Mike Tyson in his prime was very dangerous...
JuyJuy, sparring sessions don't mean ****, and consider the fact that they were ****in 16 at the time when they sparred...sparring ain't about owning each other..it's about learning...Comment
