it doesn't take a genius to figure out what's wrong...only the rich & well off can afford to go to the fights in America.everyone is broke.no work,no money.somany Americans who have kids can't afford to feed themselves but choose to have kids anyway.everyone is broke.I read so many people on this site are broke or don't have jobs or are getting a degree you can't buy a job with...how canthey afford the luxury of live boxing...there is no other reason.the people in ring magazine all have jobs while many Americans don't.if everyone was working then more people would go to the fights.am I the only one who sees the problem?

Hispanics are the demographic which has been most reliable when it comes to attendance. They're also the poorest.

I think this problem is because fighters don't really build up local and regional fan bases because promoters always want these fighters away from where they come for before they have even made a name for themselves. I mean P. Williams is from South Carolina or Georgia and spends most of his time in DC where his trainer is from but damn near all Williams fights are in California. What ****ing sense does that make? Promoters need to build fighters up locally then regionally so when the big to mega fight comes the fans will be willing to travel because they love that fighter and feel a connection with that fighter.

I mean Gary Russell jr is from the DC area but I don't think he has had one fight in this area where his damn family and friends still live. That is just dumb IMO.

          The economy is ****.

Boxing is **** compared to other sports.

The NFL, NBA, MLB dony have this problem. There is only a handful of guys who are legit superstars.

there are not to many charismatic fighters in the game,we need fighters that are good at what they do and have the fan drawing ability,i also think that with these escalating purses being demanded by some of these fighters the promoters charge outrageous fees to watch a live fight,i for one stay clear of the gate,i watch a good fight on either ppv or wait till it comes on tv a week later

Most off the stuff is too long to read, but the main problem is that Manny & Floyd are too big a stars who cry & moan about everything!!Then hbo offer fighters soo much that when they don't get what they want for a fight, they simply don't fight!!They lose their hunger!!Showtime has better fights & the up n commers!!If fight fans payed more attention to the blue collar fighters like the Punisher & Dawson & forgot about the spoiled rotten diva fighters,"that put tuneups on ppv,or fight cheaters at catchweights for titles that neither hold",boxing would be ok!!

And I hate to make this an issue of race, but the African American public really isn't backing African American fighters.

You take someone like Arreola or Angulo who are from the west coast and put them in San Antonio or Houston and Mexican Americans will go to see them. You take Adamek and put him in another part of the country where there is a large Polish population and they will go support him.

Take Berto or Dawson and put them in Detroit and they won't draw ****.

                  its what I stated early

I mean damn how many times did Danny Jacobs fight in NY before his title shot? You would think he would have been built up properly by fighting back east a lot

it is true to a large extent and IMO not racial at all.

however I do think there is an African American audience judging by the crowds being attracted in areas like DC and Cincinnati. Problem is most promoters honestly are leery about signing black fighters because they do not know how to properly promote them and think it's solely because black people do not go to the fights which makes it a double edged sword

the audience is there but if you're not smart in knowing how to target them is the key.

Well since Im a part of the AA community I'll answer this.

Its true we as a whole...dont.

                      Why?

Because we come from **** holes and look to the NBA and NFL for escape. Those are the sports African Americans support.

82% of the NBA is black

65% of the NFL is black.

Those are the sports we follow the most. Everybody knows who Chris Johnson is very few know who Chad Dawson is. Its just how it is. Mexicans are more into Soccer, Baseball, boxing, etc.
