Mosley was never marketed to black people. All Mosley ever mentioned in interviews is how he grew up fighting De la Hoya and other Mexican fighters. He never talked about going into black gyms in Cali and fighting black fighters or sparring with those other black fighters. So if all Mosley ever talked about was Mexicans why should the black community throw support behind Mosley? When Mosley himself says he fights like a black mexican. Come on man that is why he doesn't have the support of the black community. Black people in Atlanta supported Forrest why because he was a man in the BLACK community they saw his face. Mosley and a lot of other black fighters don't make themselves accessible to the black community but want black people to support them just because they black **** don't work like that in the black community. I am glad it don't!!!!

Poor Promotion, Mismanagement, and a BORING FIGHTER are the only reasons why any world class fighter would not put asses in seats. In that exact order.Comment

I agree 100%! Mosley really had no choice though, he had to align himself with the Mexican fighters because in California that is were the money was, but that is also who Mosley grew up around especially growing up in Lynwood, California and then moving to Pomona CaliforniaMosley was never marketed to black people. a lot of it has to do with Promoters and Managers as well, for example Don King is doing a better Job Promoting a young fighter like Devon Alexander, while Timothy Bradley is the best fighter at 140 he is still fighting in Casinos and Devon is fighting in front of 9,000, so like other posted, a lot of it has to do with the Promoters as well, Gary Shaw has no POWER, he basically depends on Golden Boy or Top Rank to GIVE his fighters a big fightComment

I like DiBella and Shaw personally but lets be honest, right now with everybody trying to keep everything IN HOUSE...guess who suffers when that happens...DiBella and Shaw, example...BRADLEY is the best at 140, Bradley is rated the #1 fighter at 140 in EVERY RANKING AND EVERY Publication...so why is Bradley trying to Chase Down Khan and Maidana, because they have the MONEY, GBP have the Money and the Power, so in order to get a big payday Bradley is looking to fight them when in actuality it should be the other way around it should be Khan, Maidana and Ortiz trying to chase down the best at 140 which is Bradley, to me that shows the lack of Power by Shaw and DiBella because when the Top Promotions like Top Rank and Golden Boy keep everything in house, the smaller guys SUFFER big timeLou Dibella has done a good job with Jermaine Taylor cause:A.careful match-making B.He Made Jermaine Taylor fight many times in his hometown C.Jermaine was a knockout artist (but i have to admit,he was mostly match-up with fighter`s from lower weight classes which him appear to be a harder puncher then he really is)
Plus Jermaine Taylor had a exciting style.
While Mallinnagi who was also promoted by Dibella could `nt draw as much as much as Taylor and Mallingnagi is a Italian from New York and New York has a big Italian population.
The reason is because Jermaine Taylor had a more exciting style.
So the type of fighter you have combined with careful matchmaking picking the right Area to fight in(Hometown especially) are the best chances of any fighter making it big regardless of race or creed but race does play a role in boxing.Black fighters are the least Marketable cause black people don`t support the sport as much as other races do.Alot of boxing fans are obsessed with race but alot of them mainly care about being entertained.
So if a black fighter has an exciting style and is promoted right ,he has good chance at making it big.Not as much as a chance as other races that have an exciting style but still has a good chance at making it big.
Boxing is more then just style in the ring, personality, charisma helps as well and NO **** but Looks help as well, only reason why Oscar was big as he was, it was mostly because of the WOMENLast edited by sicko; 08-12-2010, 05:18 PM.Comment
