Exactly. The guy has 20 pro fights with just a couple of good names. You remember when people were saying Dawson is ducking Diaconu and then Pascal came up in weight and beat Diaconu twice? Now nobody says anything about D and Dawson is fighting the guy who beat him twice and they don't even think about how tough of a fight this will be for Dawson. So they just want Dawson to keep fighting everyone, do all the work on his own, and not even fight Bute? And it's not like Bute would be a walk in the park for Dawson. That's actually a way better fight than Dawson vs Cloud at this point.

He doesn't have to face Cloud afterward if he doesn't want to. Dawson is a proven champion. He went 12 rounds with Adamek, 24 with Johnson, 24 with Tarver, 12 rounds with harding and now probably another 12 tough rounds with Pascal. They guy deserves his big pay day because he has put in work. Cloud has 10 fights less than Dawson and just squeeked by a guy who Dawson beat twice, and the first time was 2 years ago. Dawson vs Bute, then Froch/Kessler. If he beats Cloud, haters will say Cloud is too short at 5' 10" to be a LHW or that "he only had 20 fights and was too green". So far every Dawson win has an excuse behind it by the haters. I can not see how a win over Cloud will be any different. If you're gonna get every win ****ted on, might as well get payed a lot of money for it.
Cloud went an actual 12 rounds with Johnson and beat him at his own game. Dawson lost the first Johnson fight in alot of peoples eyes and just played it safe in the rematch with his athletic advantages. Kind of differance if you ask me. Also I think most people would rather watch Cloud try to impress rather than Dawson try to bore.Comment

i just brought that up about an hour ago that people forgot that Dawson was ducking the actual mandatory at that time. He actually vacated to avoid Diaconu.Exactly. I thought Dawson beat him twice and the first fight was more exciting than Cloud vs Johnson and Woods put together. The second fight, Dawson beat a fresher, younger Johnson much easier than Cloud beat an older Johnson and I actually had it a draw but didn't mind Cloud getting the win because the fight was a toss up. I wouldn't say Dawson or Cloud dominated Johnson in their first fight but Dawson controlled and shut out Johnson in the rematch.Cloud went an actual 12 rounds with Johnson and beat him at his own game. Dawson lost the first Johnson fight in alot of peoples eyes and just played it safe in the rematch with his athletic advantages. Kind of differance if you ask me. So he 'ducked' Diaconu but is fighting the guy who beat him twice this Saturday. After watching Pascal vs Froch/Diaconu, I would say Pascal is a much more dangerous and tougher fight than Diaconu.Comment

lol, Dawson feared Diaconu so much that he vacated...and instead fought Tarver, who is actually a relevant, known fighter who held another alphabet strap.
give me a break. Diaconu was never that much a threat, as proven when he lost back to back to a 168lb drop out in Pascal.Comment

If someone has an argument on how exactly Cloud has "earned" a fight with Dawson, I'd love to hear it. Considering they're the same age, and Dawson has about 10 more pro fights on his resume decorated with some fairly good names, I simply can't grasp the logic. Cloud's best win was against Johnson, who's old and damn near done, yet he barely squeaked by. And the notion that Dawson is "ducking" Cloud is flat out ridiculous, how someone could even allow the drivel to release from their mouths is a mystery. How exactly could you be ducking someone by facing a superior fighter who offers much more with a victory?
Dawson vs. Bute >>> Dawson vs. Cloud
As I said in another thread, if he gets by Pascal, which is a tremendously tough fight, then I wouldn't mind Cloud possibly being a tune up for Dawson before going on to fight Bute. By that time, Ward and Dirrell should have moved up and he could fight one of the two, or both.Comment

^^for starters Cloud was Dawson's mandatory for quite some time and waited for Dawson only for Dawson to give up the belt instead.
Now Cloud owns a belt, beat Johnson, on HBO and if Dawson beats Pascal next week on HBO, it makes perfect sense for them to fight next and to unify the damn belts.
What more do you want? 175 isn't exactly stacked full of great names, let the belt holders fight and unify. I don't know how anyone can be anti-unification.
Bute isn't even in the divisionComment

People call Glen Johnson the Road Warrior but look at Chad Dawson. Yes, his last fight was at home, but including that fight and this weekend, Dawson will have only fought in his home state 2 out of his last 11 fights.
He's willing to go anywhere to fight anyone, even if it means dropping a few pounds. He's unfortunately been busy fighting old guys, but Tarver was still a major player in the division for the first fight and had a rematch clause for a second. Glen Johnson was a great test in the first fight (which I thought Chad won), but some thought Johnson won. The rematch was all anyone wanted from Chad, and then he takes it and people all the sudden people want Cloud.
The guy can't win. But what he can do is keep winning in the ring and become a star "opponent". Like a Winky Wright. Someone who is just too good to be ignored.
Saturday will be a good first step.Comment
