Everybody seems to forget that every cut was caused by a "punch". Lewis looked fine several days after the fight, while Vitali had the appearance of someone that came out of a serious car accident. There is no way in the world Vitali would have lasted two more rounds, given the way he was bleeding from numerous cuts. Vitali was a young guy coming up and Lewis was an old man ready to retire. What does he have to prove? Lewis is regarded by many as the best 6'4+ heavyweight fighter ever. He cleaned out an entire division, fought everyone and beat everyone. Lewis is also a three-time heavyweight champion. The only guy he did not fight, threw his title in a garbage can rather then fight him.

if he knocked them out and gave vitali a rematch, we wouldnt have to put up with byrd's inactivity or ruiz's disgusting tactics in and out the ring, and we would have known who was the TRUE winner of lewis/klitschko 1.

and we would have one less lewis-hater to deal with.
When Lewis was champion, Ruiz and Byrd were "B" level opponents at best. Michael Grant was a young undefeated contender, why would Lewis face Ruiz, who was not champion at the time and was knocked out by Tua in 19 seconds instead? Byrd was worth no money and was coming off a KO loss to Ibeabuchi and then a beating by Wladimir Klitschko, why would Lewis have to face him?

cuz he was the mandatory, you dumass. i dont remember ali, louis, marciano, or dempsey dropping any titles to AVOID certain "b" level fighters. gee, y is it that lennox lewis dropped his belts to avoid fighters rather than just knocking them out and keeping his belts? probly cuz he was NOT a risk-taker and he was a coward.

I agree with most of what you said Rick but Lewis was in no condition to continue due to exaustion. He collapsed on his stool at the end of the 6th round and there was know way he could have lasted 2 more rounds either. This is why he did have something to prove. He could have given boxing fans one last great fight before he retired. There would be no questions unanswered about him if he took the rematch. To a lot of fans, he seemed to run into retirement after dominating so many fighters for so long cause he had a real tough fight at the end.

Maybe Violet has watched Adrian come out of her coma and tell Rocky she wanted him to do something for her....

              Violet/Adrian

              Rocky/Lennox

              Win...

Who knows maybe Violet is the best thing that could happen to the HW division right now.

Are you ******? Grant was HIS MANDATORY, the number one contender! Ruiz had already signed a contract at the time to fight Holyfield for the vacant WBA title the same year. Ruiz went on to fight Evander for 2 more bouts which spanned 3 years. Get your facts straight.

Who caused those cuts? In the last round, Lennox was landing big heavy shots and Klitschko was going to be KO'd in the next round anyway. An old and unmotivated Lennox was better than Klitschko, very sad.

Lennox could come back and win, but he should stay retired and let the division sort itself out. We need a new champion to emerge, not retread the old ones. This is a distraction we don't need. If Lennox wants to come back and clean out the division - again - that's a different story. To come back for one fight against a guy he cut up and beat down already is a waste.

YOU get ur facts straight. RUIZ was his mandatory, and the WBA title was vacant only because lewis DROPPED it to AVOID john the bum ruiz. the facts are on boxrec.com in lewis' profile.

grant as a mandatory... dont make me laugh.

Vitali was losing a ton of blood. There was no way he would of made it. He would of either died in the ring or fainted from blood loss. There is no way a fighter can lose that much blood from multiple cuts and fight on. Lewis could of taken a round or two off, there is no way to say that Lewis could of or would of not been able to continue with 6 more rounds in the book. Vitali did not look like a spring chicken at the end of the 6th either. He was sucking wind and was visibly tired. Vitali, not Lewis, has the history of getting tired down the stretch. He starts sucking wind after 6 and breathing with his mouth wide open, as he did in round 6.
