Floyd got the alphabet boys(IRS) demanding payments....his promotional company was just EVICTED for failure to pay rent....he missed a car payment sometime back and dude was getting sued for that....if you think this muh****a wont be broke in a decade then you need to lift his unborn kids from up over your eyes....LEGACY >>>>>>> MONEY.....Greats like Joe Louis and SRR may have been broke when they passed away....but they was RESPECTED by the boxing world....that RESPECT is STILL there today.....example, his money came and went but NOONE can take away the fact that Joe Louis defended the biggest title in boxing 25 successful times.....that record still stands today!!!.....thats legacy!!

        ............

Anyway Weebler I think there are legit challenges out there and Floyd still gets paid so its no excuse.

Joe Louis is a guy thats greater than Pac and Floyd combined. He died poor and was a Detroit fighter. Sad to see Larry use him as an example. Joe Louis has a gigantic stadium with his name on it in Detroit where the Red Wings play. Floyd and Pacquiao dont.

The thread starter is trying to make a point by using examples that have nothing to do with his premise. The people mentioned, Tyson especially, went broke because of their lack of self control, over-indulgence, and plain ******ity, they didn't go broke because they fought for "legacy". Not a very good way to make a point.

As to the general premise that professional fighters fight for money and not legacy, yes, that's true but only to a certain extent. If you are guy who is trying to pay the bills and has yet to make it big, then the answer is yes. What about if you are already rich? I mean say you are Klitschko and you already have over $50-$100 million banked, certainly enough to last 10 generations of his offspring. Are you still fighting for money then? Or are you fighting for something greater?
In case of "No Money" Floyd he is probably fighting for money more than anything else but at this point he needs it, he almost got his house seized by the IRS and had his Bentleys repoed. If he just cut his entourage down, he wouldn't need to spend millions on security every year. Is he scared of Pac though? I doubt it.

Diva Gaye on the other hand is a straight up vagina. He is fighting for money only, he doesn't give a damn about legacy. He is so scared of the Klitschkos that he just rejected what would have been his highest payday just so he doesn't get anihilated by them. On the surface it looks dumb but he probably did the math and said: "Ok, I can fight 2 more bums at $2-3 mil a piece and win, or I can fight Wlad for $10 mil and get the beating of a lifetime. I'll take the $6 mil and my health, screw the $10 mil and my reputation, the Brits will love my cowardly vagina @ss no matter what anyway. I'll fight Fraudley next.."

first off, those are all big bright shinning examples of why you don't let other people manage your money without managing those who you left your money to be managed by, always be in control of your own money.

joe louis is the only one that i have any sympathy for, because hearns and tyson both had louis as an example among others of what not to do..

now, to point it out, all those guys, minus louis, tyson and hearns i should say, fought for money and not legacy.

had they been fighting for legacy, they might have been more proactive with their money and preserved it TO HELP PRESERVE THEIR LEGACY FROM OUTSIDE THE RING, because, we all know, after a fighter retires, people will hold in their minds the fighters legacy both in and out of the ring and their retirement with what they do and how they're living.

fighting legacy is only one part as far as the boxing public perception, people also look at what one does in retirement to form a overall legacy assessment.

we always hear, " so and so was a great fighter, but a reatard with his money who squandered it all away and is now broke, what a great fighter but what a dumbass"

that stuff even though not inside the ring related, tarnishes legacy...... because people will always say tyson was a beast but a fool with cash, they go hand in hand........

was this just contracts in general you were speaking about or were you referencing a certain contract to a certain fight that a certain fanbase say no one has seen so that certain fighter in their opinion shouldn't be criticised?

plus when people were talking about floyd earlier in the thread why didn't you bring it up then?

                    Boxing is a job!

But so is other sports. But you dont hear the fans of others sports brag and debate about how much they make, contract splits, etc. Only boxing fans and Thug rap fans arguing about how much their favorite boxer makes in one fight and how many records their favorite artist sold. Its ridiculous and childish if you ask me. My question is, are you getting any of that money? If you are, then you would keep it to yourself, be humble, and keep making that money.
