but heres the thing: Nobody is making you get the benz. If you want to waste your money on ****** **** and end up in the poor house years later, suite yourself.

It breaks my heart to hear about fighters like Sam Langford who fought their heart out and ended up with nothing. I definitely feel for them, and support them all the way if theyre going the money route. But there is a HUGE difference between a guy fighting to makes ends meet and a guy fighting to add to his piggybank, which is already overloaded with cash.

But many studies have shown that a middle ground salary results in the happiest people overall. I definitely care about boxers' well being, and would never want to see someone who fought so hard end up with nothing. but when theyve got millions already in the bank, its not my concern how much money theyre getting anymore: they should already be set for life.
I'm not exaggerating one bit. You lose 40% in fed taxes. You have FICA, state taxes. Then your corner and promoter get their percentage from your gross, not the net. So if Bob gets 25% its taken out before the fighter gets the final dough.

" Muhammad Ali sells 80 percent of rights to his name, likeness for $50 million "

I still wanht to know why they paid him so much if its not because of his legacy.

            $4,000,000-($4,000,000*0.6)=$2,400,000
            $2,400,000-($4,000,000*0.25)=$1,400,000

I seriously doubt his corner will get $400,000 of that, and thats without advertisements and garbage that fighters get sometimes, alongside the PPV additional payments that high level guys get a cut of.

anyways, the point still stands even in the worst case scenario. a million bucks is still a damn good payout for one fight. 10 years of good living, or around twenty years of decent living provided for in one night. people with middle salaries are proven in studies to be happier than richer people, so I dont have to worry about their well being.

not that all fighters make that kind of money, but certain fighters....

Respectfully, its because he scored higher in name recognition than Tiger woods and Jordan. Yes its part because of his legacy. But Ali is a specuial case and you know it. Where is Leonard, Duran, Hagler, Marciano, Pep, Robinson $50 mil payday.

Ali was the most well known person on the planet. He is the biggest athleet ever, including pele.

real easy. go look at your check and figure the percentage you lose. Then understand that you lose almost half of the $4 mil upfront. If you win the big game for $100 mil you get roughly $37 mil.
