Why is everyone taking shots at Margarito?

I love how this thread starts off saying "controversy aside." Thats like saying... "aside from the fact that someone dies, what is wrong with murder?" You can't take out the biggest reason for him not fighting and have a legit discussion about it, but I'll go with it and simply tell you to watch Marg vs. Mosley, and the other bum he fought in Mexico a few months ago, enough said.

Clottey wasn't last minute, he was always plan B. From December when Top Rank slammed the door on the Clottey-Quintana bout for no good reason. Furthermore, when you have to hype a guy by spouting off all the fights he could've won, you should know right away that he's most certainly "a bad pick." Clottey pretty much performed as expected. We gave Manny a pass because he had just fought Cotto and Clottey was a solid "rest" bout. Solid but out of his league in terms of skill and cojones.

I haven't seen Margo come to fight in two years. He didn't fight that way the last time I saw him. And the time before that, he lost every second of the round and was brutally KTFO. I mean, think about that. On PPV for an impromptu title? Pass the remote, please. Nah, who am I kidding? I'll watching. But again, I won't be paying. Terrible, just terrible.

Again, my point with Clottey is that he never looked this bad, even against his losses to Cotto (could have gone either way) and Margo (Clottey fought well and was winning). So nobody predicted a Clottey to appear that way. Lose, yes but not that way.

When you really think about it, besides a few good early rounds by Cotto, Oscar, Hatton, Cotto and Clottey were all shelled heavily in their fights.


Margo's last fight was a tune up fight and it's his first time back since being caught. I can see him coming to prove something against Manny. Margo will be motivated as this fight against Manny means more and can turn his career around, big time.

Against Mosley, Margo was said to be weight drained and had just been caught cheating a few minutes before the fight. Margo's head could have been somewhere else that night. Still, Mosley had a good plan and deserved the win.

Manny vs Margo has potential. I understand your point of view but I can see this turning to be much better than some have said on this site.

What was going through my mind pretty much was already stated by IMDAZED. Margarito hasn't done jack **** since he beat Cotto and there are fighters out there at 154 that would be a better challenge for Pac. Even if Margarito didn't load his gloves, it doesn't change the fact he got his **** pushed in by Mosley and hasn't fought or beat a ranked fighter for a year and a half. That alone is a reason to boycott this fight along with the fact that insult is gonna be added to the injury with the catch weight and then the Cotto rematch which is even more pointless.

There were many better picks. Bad, bad year for Pacquiao. Sure, the Mayweather fight didn't go down (for whatever reason) but at least show the fans something. Clottey and Margarito? With all the fighters available? Not cool. Ahh well. Honestly, so much about boxing has me down lately, I just don't know what to say.

Talk so much about Pac fighting a tune up like Clottey and Margarito when 1 year ago almost nobody give him a chance beating any of them. Things changed so fast huh? so? judah hadnt done anything and was coming off a huge loss just like margarito
yet ppl wanted to see how their styles clashed up because they were "slick"
well lots of fans want to see how 2 great warriors clash
oh and garcia was ranked highly by the wbc thats how he got his ranking
