Soooooo, lemme get this straight. Pacquiao has to skip meals to make 140, but he has to force-feed 8,000 calories a day to get up to 147?!

Ok, yeah. Got it. There's nothing shady going on.

In a fascinating interview with his strength and condition coach Alex Ariza in the Telegraph, the expert trainer shed some light on exactly how fast the ‘Pac Man’ burns through calories with his intense workouts:

“Manny was 151 lbs at four and a half weeks out, we keep him on a 7000 calories a day diet, and once we get to Dallas, I just have to take a few things away from the diet. We have to keep his intake up. He has to have a protein shake before going to bed, he has one at 3am, and another one first thing in the morning. He has up to six meals a day and six protein shakes a day when in training for a fight. We have to keep weight on him, as he trains so hard. We can’t have his body dropping calories.”

While waking up at 3am to down a protein shake can’t be much fun, Pacquiao has a serious luxury compared to other fighters who must do the exact opposite. His next opponent Joshua Clottey is a giant welter weight who most likely walks around over 170lbs and could easily fight in the 154lb division. Clottey has never had problems making weight, but there is no doubt that the reduction in calories the week of the fight won’t be a serious pain for the Ghanaian boxer.

Plus if Pac is eating 6 meals a day to keep the weight on him for WW..then yeah, he needs to cut down to 3-4 meals to make 140...

I dont get what the big uproar is. These guys are looking for reasons to hate. For some reason Pac has them butt hurt.

Yeah and Im sure 99.9% of boxers don't eat 3-4 meals a day when they are in training.

So, cutting out that middle-of-the-night "protein shake" is considered skipping a meal?

I think freddie is tryingg to say pac is comfortable at 147 and will not be returning to 140 lbs. if jmm wants to fight at 140 lbs, he should just forget fighting pac at all. jmm also needs to realize he should stay at 135 lbs.

as for the 150 lbs catchweight, margarito is a welterweight, how do you weight drain a welterweight at 150 lbs?

So that he only gets outweighed by 15 pounds on fight night instead of 20.

Come on Larry this isn't very hard to figure out. Being outweighed by 20 pounds is a tall order for any fighter to overcome even the best in the world.

Not sure what point you are trying to make but protein shakes usually have thousands of weight gaining calories in them and they generally fill you up so I would say yes.

Exactly it was only documented on 2 count them 2 HBO 24/7's of Manny downing giant ammounts of greasy Filipino food and a member of his camp sitting there almost force feeding him. You guys act like everyone is blind and didn't see this on camera.

Whoa. I work out 6 days a week and use protein powders. No they dont bro.

You are confusing PP with weight gainers. 2 different products.

heres to all the dumbass *******s trying to claim manny is some small guy.

you heard it from the horses mouth. pacroid is a WW

they need to strip him of his 140title if hes not going to fight at 140. but that would be right up his alley, again

draining himself to fight at the smaller weight class and be the bigger guy. this guy is a sham
