why do guys who like defensive fighters think they are better fans

than those who like offensive fighters/exciting fights? Ive been a fan of this sport since i can remember. I watch boxing anytime i can, i play my favorite fights in my head before i sleep. Then some punk is gonna say im not a real fan cause i don't prefer defensive fighter? **** that. Boxing is a sport, and liking one style over the other doesn't make you less of a fan.

      exactly

liking one style over another does not make one a 'better fan'

being able to appreciate someone clinching or throwing 3 punches a round does not make you better than someone who likes to see Tyson KOs

The phrase "Styles makes fights" is one that should transcend both types of ans of fighters Offensive/Defensive alike.

I put little credence on knuckle-heads who claim that one should be a boxing fan of only one style and yet makes you less worthy if you favor another.

Yeah, I mostly see this "true boxing fan" tripe bandied around in retaliation to 'runner' jibes. Basically I think you should leave the ignorant to argue with each other and try to keep out of it lest you are dragged down to their level.

exactly. These ****s keep labeling themselves "true fans" just because they prefer defensive types.

I like good boxing, good defense, and wars. Don't most boxing fans like all kinds of fights?

Because defensive fighters constantly preach about how they love pure boxing ability and preach against offensively sound fighters who posses a more "crowd pleasing" style, by calling them brawlers, sluggers etc. Is this attitude that rubs into their fans and therefore they look every other fan as if they were ignorant to the defensive aspect of the game.

Personally, I love a defensive style boxers but that doesn't mean I consider myself more educated or a bigger boxing fan than anyone else (except of course for people who don't watch boxing at all, and when they do is because a big fight is about to take place and all of a sudden they think they are some kind of expert on the subject.)

it is no such thing as a better fan, it is simply about UNDERSTAND what you are watching

I find Soccer to be boring...but I won't go on a Soccer Forum and pretend like I know about Soccer just to ***** about how Boring Soccer is to me

it is the same damn thing here, a lot of guys jump on this board and post some of the crazy **** you will ever see and majority of the time they are wrong, but when you call them out on their BULL**** then they are quick to get sensitive and say stuff like "You Think Your A Better Fan" "You Must Be A *******" "You Must Be A Flamo"

Mayweather is boring because he is technically sound? How does that make sense? Because he moves out of the way of punches, because he uses his speed and footwork advantage, because he doesn't go for the KO when majority of the time he is so far up on the cards

Mayweather plays CHESS (a game many people also find boring but it is a "THINKINGS MAN GAME"), other fighters play Checkers (much faster pace and is much easier and more fun to most), Mayweather THINKS before he makes his move, most other fighters MOVE before thinking while hoping that their move is the correct one

again it has nothing to do with someone thinking their better then anyone, a lot of guys are new to boxing and maybe only been watching since Pacman and Mayweather became stars and it is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but don't try to pretend like you know more then you really know you only make yourself look foolish

I do think it is generally said against those who say things like "How did the judges give Mayweather/Casamayor/Dawson that many rounds? He was just running around all night, while his opponent was pressing the action." That's obviously pretty obnoxious to hear.

The only other thing I can think of is that it is more difficult to appreciate the mastery of a defensive wizard, and it's not as instinctual to like them, so they feel like they are on another level with the sport, because they have grown to love the mastery of something that isn't initially crowd pleasing to the eye.
