Already certain boxing writers(tim smith) are making excuse that the death of Jacobs grandmother may have played a part of the loss. He writes that Jacobs grandmother died a week ago and Jacobs had to leave trainning camp. Also the Funeral is held today, so Jacobs had to take a red eye flight to NY today for the funeral.

My respone to TIm Smith: Buster Douglas had his mom die before the Tyson fight and scored the biggest upset in boxing history. Rodrigo Valdez has his brother murdered one week before his fight with Carlos Monzon, Valdez still gave Monzon a tough fight that went the distance.

I feel sorry for the death of his grandmother but its not an excuse.

Funny how some people use the passing of a loved one as
motivational and others as an excuse. Perhaps that's why he
let Tim Smith know in advance so he could have a built in
excuse? Bottom line, he was totally overrated and was a
glorified golden glover who hooked up with Haymon and was
gifted a title shot..
