its not "unprecedented" when the opponents side is also the promoter. The promoter must provide insurance for every fighter on the card (at least in the US). Every show we do we have a policy for the night to cover any injuries or (god forbid) a death. That insurance runs about $1500 for the night. Plus a general liability policy to cover any injuries to spectators.
I think though the arguement here is that the fight was made on a purse bid, not during free negotiations. In a purse bid contract, you cant put any extra crap in there. Typically its fighter+3 on the travel, 4 rooms, and meals for 4. Gloves dont even have to be addressed, because IBF rules permit the promoter to choose the gloves. But in a urse bid contract all that jazz about missing pressers or whatever could have just been crossed out if Povetkin wanted the fight.......
Wow, Thanks for the education. I never knew the promoter of the fight has the right to chose the gloves, I thought because Povetkin is a mandatory he can wear whatever gloves he want.Comment

This article was here on BSBarrett recently stated that K2 treated him like absolute ****.
He said that they treated him so badly, it couldn't have been by accident.
Barrett is sure that it was a plan to put him off his game before the fight. Putting him up in an ****ty budget hotel where a number of fans also happened to be staying. The fans couldn't believe that Barrett was rooming in the same hotel. K2 paid for nothing, including food
K2 rule the heavywight division, so they should have the upper hand, but they are garnering a reputation for low-balling their opposition.
AND BARRETT WAS TALKING ABOUT THE TREATMENT HE RECEIVED FROM TEAM HAYE, NOT K2Comment

So now they're trying to save face because their guy backed out? Teddy Atlas says that he advised Alexander to take a few more fights, not mentioning anything about contracts, but now the problem was this?
Wlad agreed to their Olympic style drug tests, why aren't they mentioning that part?Comment

Not turning up to a press conference, can cause very adverse criticism to be written about the defaulting fighter, and do irreparable dame to the whole promotion. It's a safeguard against treating the press conferences in a cavalier manner, as the opposing fighter might often do otherwise, not forgetting that the Promotion Company are footing not only the overhead costs, but the guarantees, advertising, other salaries of the dozens of people involved and really, too many things for me tomention, or even know about.
Those who protest these natural contractual stipulations, have no idea how business is run.Comment

K-2 promotions didn't even exist when Barrett fought Wladimir in 2000! Wlad was promoted by Universum at that time.Barrett recently stated that K2 treated him like absolute ****.

NO IT ISN'T! The people who say it is, without considering the matter ARE ******.
WHY do you think that clause is in the contract??Even a cretin would know why. Let me whisper it to you, so you can pretend to all, that you thought of it yourself.
THE PROMOTERS (OR KLITSCHKO) HAVE A CONTRACT TO USE ONLY THESE GLOVES. FOR WHICH THEY (OR HE) ARE PAID A SUBSTANTIAL SUM OF MONEY, PLUS BEING SUPPLIED WITH FREE GLOVES.
If they didn't use the gloves, they would be in contravention of the agreement, and would probably be liable to huge penalties levied against them.............SO USE THE BLOODY GLOVES.Comment
