In Boxing a Record of 18-10 Means You Are A Bum. In MMA? Your A Natural.

Not a UFC fan but i like that records are not as big a factor in deciding greatness there than in boxing. because a lot of times boxing records are very easily stat padded against bums while in UFC i would say there is a rather good amount of good fighters that lead to fighters beating up on eachother and their records. not as much ducking as a result which in that area UFC is a lot better than boxing. Emphasis on in "that area" not as a whole!Comment

1-3 is a bum in your opinion, right? Anyone that starts his career with that record ought to just give up and try something else, right?Comment

Its not that his stance is sloppy and low. Its because he has to prepare for much more than just punches. A typical boxer stance would do no good when you have to worry about your opponent shooting in and taking u down. Or when you have to look for kicks, elbows, etc...Comment

It think that say more about how we put too much emphasis on paper records in boxing, especially in cases where if someone has 3-4 losses they are doomed to reside in journeymanville just south of gatekeeperton.Comment

They're two completely different sports.
In boxing if you have 10 losses and like 30 wins, it most likely means you suck against top class fighters, either that or you just suck. And you will be used as a stepping stone, boxing is a skill, you're either good at it or not. People will identify if you're good or not by your record, and rightfully so.
Who can you say is good that has 10+ wins barring Glen Johnson, and those old school fighters with 60+ fights? I mean if you see a guy in boxing with a 30-15 record will you take him serious against a guy like Manny Pacquiao, or Floyd Mayweather, or Paul Williams? No you will not, and don't lie.Comment

One of the reasons for this is that in MMA, they get paid so little that they have to fight for a championship just to make enough money to pay their car note. The guy who just fought Brock Lesnar last weeken for the heavyweight championship made $40,000 for that fight. The PPV will probably make $20 million, but he only received $40,000. Guys who headline fights on ESPN make more than that. Boxers are developed into championship caliber fighters over a period of years. If an MMA fighter is 2-0, he is thrown to the wolves so that the promoter can hype a "big match" and make more money. Urfortunately, the fighter still gets paid peanuts.Comment
