When you consider that at his peak he weighed 185-190, which is what the top super middles and light heavys today weigh when they enter the ring, I would say he is underrated P4P if overrated at heavyweight. What would he have been able to do against Lennox, Vitali or Wlad? Nothing, he would have been destroyed. How would he do in the super 6? He would have walked through them all undefeated.

Yeah, he started boxing late at 25, while he was serving in the army. His amateur record isn't that good: 8 wins and 4 losses.

He trained like no other heavyweight. It wasn't out of the ordinary for him to run 12 miles everyday. This really helped his stamina. He also followed a very strict diet plan that consisted of only one big meal a day.

As for his punching power, he would hit a 300 pound heavy bag and would actually make it move. He thought that if he could make a 300 pound heavy bag move, he could also make a 200 pound opponent move.

He got through his career with toughness, heart and the never lose attitude.

He's overrated and underrated at the same time. People who overrate him put too much emphasis on his undeafeted record. However when you take a look at it it's full of guys with ****ty records (but that's not his fault, that's how boxing was back then) and the ATG he has on his record were mostly either smaller than him or at the very end of their careers.

Then again how many people can say they retired undefeated and have Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles, Jersey Joe, and Joe Louis on their resume?

Also, I don't mean to turn this into a nationality thing, but he had a HHHUUUGEE (and still does) Italian American following.

PPl always try to rate him against more modern fighters and you can't do that with any validity.

athletes today>>>>>>old timers from 60-70 years ago.

I have no doubt that if he was around today Chad Dawson would give Rocky a 12rd boxing lesson but he isn't around today and can only be rated against the fighters of his time which are inferior physically to the ones today.

The thing is the people that overrate him actaully call him the GOAT and others say he's the GOAT heavyweight. Also he had a good 20lbs on Moore and Walcott like Louis was at the very very end of his career. So like many fighters, overrated by fans and underrated by critics.
