I get all that, good post. My whole thing is if the fight doesn't generate money (which obviously means there isn't a ton of public interest) make a better fight.

NO ONE was demanding Mosley vs Mora. That totally came out of the blue. How about Mosley vs Andre Berto? Mosley vs Paul Williams? Mosley vs Cotto II? etc

Make the fights that people actually want to see or demand and guess what? HBO/Showtime will pick the fight up.

      It's a valid point.

But sometime fighters deserve a tune up.

Cotto deserved a tune up after the beating against Margs.

Shane just got the hell beat out of him, I actually think Mora is a fairly difficult fight for him.

And when guys fight a tune up, and HBO doesn't want to pay for it, they are justified, but fans still want to see their favorite fighters.

It sucks that we would have to pay for it, but it's better than the alternative of not having the option of watching the fight.

And for the guys at the lowe weights....those are good fights sometimes.

Montiel/Morel? That's a good scrap and it would suck if we would have no way of watching it ya know?

I get all of that Savor, I just don't like it and still don't want to buy them because its usually not what I deem PPV worthy cards.

I know they are in a tough spot but that doesn't mean its fine and we should buy them because they couldn't come up with a better solution.

I subscribe to HBO and Showtime for boxing and that is enough of and as much of a contribution as I am willing to give.

What should they do then to make it better? Not my problem, I am just a fan this is for them to figure out.

No one is making you buy it. But they are risking their own money to make it an option for you and the rest of the fans.

They should be commended for that, not ostracized.

Absolutely they do, but tune ups don't deserve to be on PPV, independent or not. See Bernard Hopkins for an example. That's the way you do a tune up. You don't need to make $1,000,000+ for a damn tune up.

Mosley is in a tough spot. He isn't a ppv draw. He wants big money but hasn't sold enough to warrant it. His 2 biggest fights he was on PED's in 1 and looked terrible in the other so his marketability is shot.

Best bet, IMO, fight Paul Williams or Berto OR pray ODH comes back and wants to fight you. Otherwise I don't see how he makes aanything north of $3 mil.

Another good point. But Hopkins doesn't have a fan base that would pay for those fights. Guys like Cotto do. It's the promoter's job to maximize their fighters' earnings.

If GBP put Hopkins/Orneales on PPV they would be virtually guaranteed to lose money.

Cotto/Jennings did 225k PPV buys....as much as Pavlik/Hopkins, an HBO PPV.

If you can do it and make money, they're gonna do it.

I agree though...I thought how they handled Hopkins' tuneup was great. But dudes wanna make money, it's just the nature of the business.

Is it not safe to say, stop bitching and just don't order it?

Independent PPV's are better to me than fighters just fighting once or twice on Showtime or HBO each year. It's another way for the fighters WHO ARE DEVELOPED PROPERLY to line make money, stay active, and increase their public profile.

Then don't order it. If they lose enough $, they'll stop.

and I won't because its asking too much of fans I think, I guess everyone will have to lose out until they come up with a more reasonable solution.
