Regarding Pre-Fight PED Testing, Has Anyone Considered...

exactly, the fighter tested positive i think would face lawsuits, but should the clean fighter be made to fight anyways just to make the fight happen? In the end it's the fighter who tested positive's own fault and not only would he lose the fight, money and be fined, but the network and promoters would be more inclined to check and make sure fighters a clean before wasting their money, or pay for it in the end. What happens if a fighter tests positive?
Of course that would invalidate the fight, right?
So what happens to the promotional companies that were publicizing and booking venues, hotels, plane tickets, paying commission fees to promote the fight?
Surely one positive test could conceivably cost a promoter millions of dollars, as well as any big-time network that had invested in the fight.
I could see this being an ugly situation with lots of lawsuits.Comment

Probably because fighters who already get their faces bashed in for a living don't want the other guy to be cheating on top of that. Why have rules at all?Comment

The contracts should take care of this. Hefty fines for the offender as further deterrent to go with a year long ban from the commision.
But yeah. There will be lawsuits. Especially the first time around.Comment

Yes it defeat the purpose of the whole testing thing but am sure the fight would go ahead while any dirty test result would be kept silent, Dont you think they have talked about the possibilty of this already? Am sure they have and the person who test dirty would probably forfeit something for doing so while the fight goes ahead. What's the point of having the random testing if it doesn't enforce something? Because the way I look at it, there is no incentive to be clean then if there is no penalty and no one hears about it.
Besides, the way the media works, someone is going to find out what is going on. If it is the commission implementing the testing as would eventually happen (hopefully), the results would be made public.Comment

i know right. It's not like we haven't considered these factors when discussing this in the past on here.
The bottom line is that boxers die in the ring, boxers suffer permanent damage in the ring. Often the risk of fighting a clean fighter isn't commensurate to the reward.
What is a fighter failed their blood work 10 days before a fight?? HIV?? The fight is stopped due to the risk to the opponent-----> how is PED use any different???
Short term pain for long-term gain. This scenario is conceivable. However under WADA code the fighter would get a 2 year ban, and depending on the damage caused by them testing positive it would completely destroy their career. My point is that very strict testing will prevent most boxers from trying to circumvent the rules. The ones who do probably have the experience (think conditioning coaches and guys like Conte) to get away with it.Comment

If a fighter destroyed a fight of this magnitude because they tried to cheat and got caught their career would be over.Comment

wMute could be onto something. I remember a while back that Evander Holyfield was under su****ion after several questionable purchases of banned supplements.

He outed Mike Tyson in the article. Imagine what would happen if we had a Steroid-Gate in boxing nowadays? I really do think that a lot of top guys, and when I mean top guys I mean THE top guys, in boxing have used some things. The rumors I've heard have been pretty crazy, and the things that I can confirm have been eye-opening as well.
TBH none of that surprises. If it's easy to cheat as soon as a few are doing it the rest will follow because they have to in order to compete and not give away an advantage. Then you get a culture setting in where it's not considered cheating at all.Comment

Have it the same way the weigh-ins go.
Let it be publicly known. Let the two parties decide if they go through with the fight and how much of his purse is stripped to go to the clean fighter. If the clean fighter decides to pull out of fight, the agrreived can sue the guilty fighter/promo company.
Whats so complicated about that?
Sure fans will be disapointed. So what? Blame the cheater.Comment
