That is why he was not better than the first version of Roy that Tarver fought. Mentally he was just not prepared. That version of Tarver was also not the best. And, I never said Tarver would of beaten any version of Roy. But, I think a peak Tarver at 175 would of gave any version of Roy at 175 hell. And, I stand by that comment.
Is Roy Jones Jr Top 25 ATG?

I have to agree, even as a RJJR fan myself he fits into the ATG list categories quite well! You talk like Roy had 15 minutes of fame or some ****.
For almost a 15 year period he lost one fight and that was a DQ for hitting a guy he had knocked down and was on the way to stopping. That means no legit losses over almost a decade and a half. Over this time he won titles from 160 through to Heavyweight and beat a string of very good and great fighters, barely losing a round for several fights in a row.
I think that body of work is decent enough to rate Jones on. Not saying his decline should be completely ignored, but it shouldn't take the focus away from just how spectacular he was in his prime.
Definitely top 25 ATG IMO.
Achivements - Six time world champion in 4 different weight classes starting at MW and going to HW (first person from middle weight to do it since 1897) which is quite an achivement. Voted fighter of the dacade, and stayed on top of pound for pound lists for nearly 10 years.
Longivity - as above 15 years and only losing one bout is impresive, along with being a world champion for most of that time at various weight classes.
Consistency - According to HBO only lost a couple of round for all the time that he was showen on the network, even though these are based on the oppions of Harrold Lederman this can also be true to the score cards of the judges that scored the bouts. Most are by very wide margins, and shows the consistancy that RJJR had during most of his career.
Resume - This is the part that seems to be lacking really, admittingly it could have been better based on jones' skill levels. But he still has Toney, Hopkins, McCallum on his list.Comment

Damn! if only tarver had beat harding the first time...if only. You gotta understand tarver scored when jones back against the ropes, in the middle of the ring he was doing nothing even against a drained jones. In his prime there are a few fighters would've gave roy hell and tarver is definitly not one of them. That is why he was not better than the first version of Roy that Tarver fought. I say we stop this top ATG stuff
Its waaayyyyyyyyyy too many good fighters to be ranking fighters. What happened to ranking fighters by their main divisions. This ATG is wayyy to broadComment

Yea Tarver suffering a broken jaw against Harding not good. Agree about when they were in the middle of tthe ring. Speaking of Harding, Eric was having success against Roy also though. He was giving Roy fits until he suffered the bicep injury. But, I guess we will agree to disagree in this matter.Damn! if only tarver had beat harding the first time...if only. Personally I don't think he would have given a prime Roy "hell", but he definitely had the tools to make it a difficult fight for Roy. Still, I think Roy would have just used his legs, fought it pretty cautious and outpointed Tarver by a wide margin. That is why he was not better than the first version of Roy that Tarver fought. Not gonna read this thread because I don't want to get pissed. Just want to say Roy beats everybody that has ever boxed between 160-175 in his prime and he beats them all easy too!Comment
