Isn't Cotto a better plan B for Floyd than Martinez?

Option A) Sergio Martinez - Less money, bigger risk.

Option B) Miguel Cotto - More money, smaller risk.

I'm pretty sure Floyd will be choosing option B.

I don't know why you guys keep saying, "winning the MW title would be greater" or "if he wants legacy" ,it's greater. First off, I thought Mayweather fights for checks, not belts or legacy. Secondly, Martinez although being a really good fighter, will not be remembered as one of the best fighters of our era. Miguel is a borderline hall of famer and will be remembered for years to come. Although Miguel isn't what he was, when people look back at his resume 40 years from now he will be remembered as a great fighter and enhance Floyds resume. People rarely remember if a fighter was shot or older when they look back at resumes, they usually just look at the name and say wow he beat a great champion, in this case Miguel Cotto. Floyd should give Miguel a shot. Let Miguel tap that ass.

Not to hate but Mayweather is always on the lookout for the best risk/reward fight and that's what Cotto brings to the table.

I agree that winning the MW would be huge for Floyd, but a fight with Cotto in NY would be freaking huge.
Alot of people did, Of course it was a suprise. Hatton was arguably the bigger name at that point and the way Pacquiao did it impressed alot of people. But with Floyd everyone is so critical of him, People were saying "Fight Mosley, Floyd is scared of Mosley" but when he does fight him and wins 11 out of 12 rounds people say "Oh well Mosley was old, He had a layoff etc etc. It would be the same thing with Cotto, If he won people would say "Oh well he just beat Pacquiao's leftover's". It would be a no win if he fought Cotto.

I think the reason he would like the Martinez fight is because it would be history. I can't remember another former 130lber moving up and winning the Middleweight title other than Oscar De La Hoya. And Oscar's title win wasnt exactly a great win because most people felt he lost to Felix Sturm. If Floyd moved up and beat Martinez decisvely then he would be pretty much the only person to do that. Plus it would be his 6th WBC title. The WBC belt is considered to be the most prestigious, If he won 6 of them that would really look good on his resume...

I think we are all here on the same page. For "legacy" Martinez would be the better fight, but the smart move would be to fight Cotto for his newly acquire 154 belt.

Very true. I think he can't go wrong either way.

As Boxing fans, no. The more competitive matchup is in Mayweather vs. Martinez. Cotto would bring more money though.

Cotto has ZERO chance of beating Floyd, therefore I do not want to see the fight. Not because I dislike Floyd, but because I want to see a competitive fight where the outcome is unknown. That means Williams, Martinez and to some degree Pac (esp if the fight is at 140.)

I think they are both good options. Cotto is a better option in terms of $.
