Chris Byrds on negotiating with the Klitscko brothers

Again, why would Byrd bull**** about it?First of all, I don't buy that "20% if he will beat both of them" crap. Second, even if this existed, that wasn't Klitschko decision but Klaus Peter Kohl's. Third, who said that was the case in Haye's contract? And fourth, he was offered TWO options contract according to Boente. Haye prefered THREE options contract to Sauerland Event and Valuev fight, and was pretty happy about it.
The Klitschkos could have told Kohl to put in in their contracts, it's not unprecedented, every fighter has different demands.
Who said it's not the case in Haye's contract? I never said it was in Haye's contract, I was saying that if it was in Haye's contract then I understand why he balked at the deal the second time.
Haye's options with Sauerland are different to the ones the Klitschkos wanted of him, the Klitschkos wanted him to fight them both to a total of 3 times if he beat them both. The options with Sauerland as far as I understand it are basically that Sauerland has co-promotional rights to Haye and gets a piece of the pie with a rematch clause with Valuev if Valuev decided to use it, Valuev has not decided to enforce it.Comment

It's odd that everyone the brothers lost too apart from Brewster because Vitali was in retirement from injuries by then (and Lewis because he retired and possibly because he was THE champion) had a rematch with the other brother.
Purrity beat Wlad and fought Vitali a few years after, Byrd "defeated" Vitali and fought Wlad a few months after, Sanders beat Wlad and faced Vitali in his next fight.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case.Comment

I'm sick'n'tired of those type of discussions. "The Klitschkos COULD have told Kohl to put in in their contracts"... "IF it was in Haye's contract"... If you guys want to put all the blame on Klitschko's, that's fine. You can blame them in the Great China Earthquake of 1556, it won't make it more true. Peace out.Comment

You know, it happens when you have two brothers in one division, who are fighting on the same level. "Brother's revenge" thing make promotion much easier. It's odd that everyone the brothers lost too apart from Brewster because Vitali was in retirement from injuries by then (and Lewis because he retired and possibly because he was THE champion) had a rematch with the other brother.

Yeah, yeah the Klitschkos put slave contracts, yet Ibragimov, Chagaev, Sam Peter and a bunch of other guys have had no trouble negotiating with them. Byrd was the champion both times he faced Wlad and he wants us to believe he only made 20% of the purse? Yeah, I totally believe it, if you do too I have a bridge I want to sell you guys

Byrd made $2 million in the 2nd fight.his purse was talked about on the broadcast.it was byrd biggest payday ever...even Byrd was champ he got kinda lowballed by king.his fight vs golota,Byrd was champ got $400000 while golota got like $3 million...Byrd was trying break off his contract following this fight....king told Byrd" did you think this soldout arena full of polish is here to see you chris?" king had a point! Its no surprise the klits make tough contracts but they are the cash cows now so until someone beats them....Comment

are any of you at the negotiating table? No,probably not so all you guys are doing is speculating....I remember speculating haye vs Harrison before prizefighter...you all thought I was crazy....no one knows unless you actually seen the contract & all else is just here say!Comment

The Klitschkos were nobodies in 2000 (when Byrd fought Vitali). You think Kohl gave a **** about what the Klits said?
The Klits went through a lengty series of lawsuits with Kohl to get out of their contract in 2003/2004.Comment

They weren't nobody. In 2000 they had already caught the eye of HBO across the pond, not an easy thing to do for European heavyweights. Are they as big as they are now? Of course not but they were not nobodies.Comment
