I am not a fan of DLH but I do despise Chavez for many things and one reason being the way he treated Oscar. All those things you said may be true but you can't sit there and say he wouldn't have been embraced a bit more by Mexicans had Chavez extended his support and not labeled DLH as a fake. DLH is Americanized but he never forgot where he came from and as a youngster was always wearing trunks/robes that had the American flag and Mexican flag. Mexicans would of never fully supported him but they would of certainly been more accepting had Chavez not done the things he did. Chavez had a lot of power on the Mexican fight fan and he used that to hurt DLH's popularity.

anyone who says that Chavez was a 'no skill brawler' has no idea what theyre talking about.
Julio Cesar Chavez has the most title defences in the history of boxing.
He has multiple wins over top opponents and future/former world champions over 3-4 weight classes. He was considered the best fighter in the world for years
Chavez beat 2 of the universally recongnised top 5 fastest fighters of all time. He also beat one of the p4p hardest punchers of all time.
He was at his 3rd weight class and what? 90 or something fights into his career before his first controversial fight, let alone his first real loss years later. people (conveniently)seem to forget he also moved up in weight to fight Whitaker.
As a person, I dont really try to judge him(or care, since he is now retired). but as a fighter, he is one of the best that has ever fought.Comment

hmmm, I think I counted when he won titles as well, cause thats...sort of a title defense.
let me rephrase the statement though: he has more wins in championship fights than any other fighter in history.

Chavez had nothing to do with the fact that DLH was born in the U.S and chose to represent this country. Placing a Mexican flag on your shorts doesnt mean much if you're unwilling to bleed on Mexican soil. Mexicans would simply never embrace a guy that represents a rival nation. That would be like Mexicans supporting a guy that also sports the PR flag, it's not going to happen.
DLH also rubbed some people (not just Mexicans) the wrong way because they perceived his "golden boy" image as being contrived. Personally, I thought it was pretty disrespectful when DLH carried on like he had just conquered the world after defeating a faded legend in Chavez (whom he claimed to idolize). Even Pac showed more humility after defeating DLH and there was legitimate personal beef between the two. DLH was humble in defeat immediately after, but he showed his true colors after the Pac alleged roid use scandal broke out. He attempted to tarnish pac's legacy and even went so far as to insinuate that Pac may have used roids in their fight despite any credible evidence whatsoever. That alone is worse than anything Chavez ever did or said about any of his opponents combined. Yet according to you and some other people on these boards, DLH is this good guy in the sport while Chavez is an *******. I'm not even sure why some people view Chavez as being such an ******* in boxing. A few people have mentioned that they've had bad experiences meeting him in person, but he was generally respectful of his opponents (who usually initiated the trash talking) and preferred to let his fists do the talking. Great post.. De La Hoya is twice the scumb bag that Chavez is. If you hate Chavez as a person, that's fine. But how the hell can you bring De La Hoya into this argument when he's guilty of doing the same exact thing with Pac that the TS is accusing of Chavez doing with Oscar. Hell, Oscar could be a rapist for all we know. The basis of this thread is a total fail.Comment
