In his prime, but he is hardly in his prime now at 36-37. Neither is Shane Mosley or even Wonjongkam, yet they're top 10 p4p fighters. The talent level today doesn't really match the talent level of some other eras, in my opinion.

For you guys who say that MAYWEATHER is a better defensive fighter than WHITAKER, HOW LONG HAVE YOU GUYS BEEN WATCHING BOXING? WHITAKER is the greatest defensive fighter EVER! PERIOD! WILLIE PEP is number 2, and MAYWEATHER is 3rd. WHITAKER was a boxing GOD and in my top 5 to ever lace up gloves. Would MAYWEATHER look this GOOD had he been fighting fighters in their primes? I DON'T THINK SO. IT was hard to hit WHITAKER anywhere. HEAD and BODY. He had BILLION-DOLLAR LEGS, whereas MAYWEATHER doesn't have the ebst legs. Never did. That's WHY it's easy to hit him to the body. He is also suceptable to a GOOD jab. He was quicker than WHITAKER, but WHITAKER was far the overall better fighter. He never LOSS once in his PRIME. You can't say that about MAYWEATHER because he hasn't fought A-LEVEL competition. It's like those who even mention KOBE BRYANT and MICHAEL JORDAN in the same sentence. Floyd's defence is better than anyone else in boxing, it really frustrates you like hell when your with him in the ring especially combined with those swift hands and legs.
that kind of style is so "play-safe".
floyd wins. but then again SO WHAT?
does he make your money worth it? does he let you jumped off your sit?
does he have dramatic endings? does it moved the heart of millions?
does it inspire people? NO.

we are here to be entertained.

i'd rather watch two heroic bums killing each other round by round fighting for their country's pride, with great heart and courage

than watch a very SKILLFUL guy skillfully potshotting his lightweight opponent till 12.
