Vitali's four year break was beneficial, he was injured, he got surgery, he healed, he recovered. Sometimes the benefit of resting from serious injuries outweighs the negative of inactivity.

Ali did not need a break, all the break did was accumulate ring rust.

Anyways, Ali fought Joe Frazier, a top ten ATG heavweight, only a couple fights after his layoff.

    Vitali fought Sam Peter.

Oh, and another thing Tunney. I just remembered Ali did that exhibition with the Japanese martial artist who kicked the living **** out of Ali's legs, giving him serious problems with his legs, I've even heard it cited before as a partial reason Ali's legs were so bad later in his career.

So if kicks are more damaging Tunney...........
Inoki did wreck Ali's legs. Ali also had other injuries, such as damage to his kidneys from the numerous body blows he had taken in his career, which is why his doctor Ferdie Pacheco left his camp after the Shavers fight, thinking Ali should have retired by then.

Depends entirely on how many rounds and how tough were those rounds both sparing and actual fights more than throwing a blanket over age , and the bigger fighters age slower than the smaller fighters probably because the smaller guys are faster with sharper reflex ,,,, age dont tell the full story .

Better than Frazier? A lot of opponents. Frazier would be a B-level fighter nowadays. Wait, he wouldn't even be allowed to box (because he was blind on his left eye).

Better than Foreman? Hard to say. I believe that Foreman is one of the seldom example of Ali's opponents that are comparable to nowadays era. However when you analyze Foreman's record then not much stays actually.

As I mentioned: Foreman has only scored 2 KOs in world championship fights. Thus the correct question is: Does Foreman have any win on his record that is better than Vitali. No, he doesn't.

Having said that: I believe that Foreman is better than Ali and that Foreman had better chance against the Klitschkos (or any other modern heavy) than Ali.

honestly I give Vitali respect because he handled his business, people forget his career has been plauged with injuries, he lost out 4 years of his career and came back to a fight where he made Samuel Peter quit we can't forget who we talking about here yo because even an aging Vitali would be too much for damn near any Heavyweight today, including his own brother
