      More like 5/10

MMA fighters aren't good at any one style, they're crappy at all.

The Elite of boxing have WAY more fight experience than MMA dudes.

Think about it, 100 + am fights, then 40 or so Pro fights.

the Elite of MMA (Which doesn't have an Amateur school) rank in top 30 fights (I'm using Randy Couture who is a "Vet" as an example).

You take an Elite boxer right after a boxing match and put them in an MMA fight and it would be a toss up.

        BUT..

My point is this, you take the Elite of boxing, give them 4 months to train in Clinching and Takedown defense, they will dominate ANY Mma fighter.

As far as the Muay-Thai versus Boxer arguement, I believe it comes down to body type. In the example above the Muay-Thai fighter had an obvious Height, Weight, Arm reach and Leg Strength advantage.

Do you think those kicks would knock down Wlad Klitch??

I guess bad boxers > bad martial artists?

One problem is that a kick takes longer to reach its destination than a punch, especially one thrown by a well-trained boxer who specializes in hand speed. The martial artist has the potential to be superior, but it just seems a much longer discipline to master, and few fighters have that amount of time and willpower.

this is one of the poorest, and weakest arguments that ive seen you mmgay fans make regarding this subject.

you always pull the "boxers are limited, mma guys have a larger skillset" card, but what you fail to realize is this: by having a larger skill set, it weakens your overall skill in EACH individual skill.

so in conclusion, while the mma fighters have a larger skillset, they are ****ty at pretty much everything they do.

think of the mma fighter as an advanced cell phone. it has an mp3 player, a camera, a navigator, web browsing ability, video games, and video recorder built into it. but while it has all these features, each one of those individual features is watered down to make room for the others.

for example: an ipod (which specializes in JUST playing mp3's) is a better version of a cell phone mp3 player. a 500$ camera which specializes in JUST taking pics, will take pics better than any cell phone can. a PSP which focuses primarily on playing games, is a better gaming platform than any cell phone, etc. etc.

its called being a jack of all trades, but a master of none. the boxer specializes in his skillset, the mmgay fighter does not.

I agree. Given time and proper preparation, an MMA fighter can trancend what we've seen so far.

However the development of a boxer will always have a fundamental advantage, since it is the most direct fighting style. Using the most natural weapon (the punch) to the closest target causing incapacitation (the head).

I'm talking sport combat though. Street fights are different (Eye jabs, and groin shots).
