Even when schaefer project the bold 3 million PPV buys most normal boxing fan (Mayweather fans included) thought schaefer was deluded, Not even Mayweather-Pacquiao would do that much, 1.4 was great numbers in the end but because of the 3M buy predicted it made the 1.4M buys look like an unsucessful event.
PAC fans had it right all along... Experts and Floyd fans were all wrong!!

I think the GBP and HBO are very dissapointed with the PPV outcome after the money that they spend for hyping this fight, they had spend millions of dollars for hyping this fight because they expect that floyd could still fool those people that he already fooled, but they are wrong this time.Comment

Lol. Were you there to witness his birth too? His first word and the day he first walked perhaps?
But seriously, two things about that:
If what you said is true you sound like a crab ass ma****a, hatin on Floyd's successes.
If not, then you are a more intelligent troll than I originally envisioned so props on that.
Now, as for the numbers, they were great numbers for what the fight was. A fight between two black fighters that Mayweather carried (when has mosley ever done good numbers before? Ill wait.. I mean even with oscar in oscars prime drawing power time Shane didn't get no 1.4..) This the highest grossing all black PPV fight in history and its a failure?? What a crab ass.
Shaeffer and company predicted so highly to encourage the bandwagon mentality, like, "oh everyone is ordering this fight I have to too". It was a marketing technique nothing more.. Anyone that reads too much into that PPV prediction **** clearly doesn't understand basic promotional concepts.. Pac Cotto had some pretty wild PPV predictions by Arum as I recall, why aren't you addressing that?
The fight was not a failure so gtfo with that.
So answer me this.....Do you believe HBO and Golden Boy Promotions are satisfied with the ppv results? (I dont)..... Did it produce the blockbuster results they had hoped? (I think it sold well short of expectations....1.7 to 2 mill. (And forget 3-4 mil that was spin and numbers for marketing only... I dont believe for one second they ever expected those numbers).
If so then why aren't they sending out press releases and going on air before HBO Boxing events that have followed and touting what a huge success this fight was?
Has anyone seen even one word about the ppv results from Taffett or Schaffer? Nothing....
Am I the only one who has seen Mark Taffett and Richard Schaffer take the podium to talk about the ppv results from other fights.... Am I wrong for thinking this is common practice?
If HBO and Golden Boy believed this event was a huge success..... they would want to tell everyone what a great show they put on, and how lucky they are to have a talent like Floyd to promote, and that everyone should keep an eye on the developing negotiation for Floyds next opponent.
Maybe I'm way off base here but I dont think so..... I believe the both HBO and Golden Boy are disappointed with the results and that is why they are not making a big deal about the 1.4 mil buys.
Im a Floyd Fan and a realist...... (floyd is laughing all the way to the bank and deservedly so.....) HBO and Golden Boy were hoping this fight would push the 1.7 to 2 mil ppv buys and use this as a launching pad to market a blockbuster event between Floyd and Pac that would do close to 2.5 to 3mil ppv buys.
The reality has set in for Broadcaster and Promoter both........Forget about breaking ppv records with Floyd v Pac....... it will be a great event and sell in the neighborhood of 2 mil but thats all.Last edited by tacoboxer; 05-21-2010, 10:07 AM.Comment

Cotto is a draw, he has Puerto Rico behind him which includes the Island of Puerto Rico and many Puerto Rican populated areas in the USA and globally and Pacquiao has the same support behind him, they are BOTH draws yet they only sold 1.25 million PPV's (1,250,000) while Floyd in a fight where he was the only draw he itched out 1.4 million PPV's (1,400,000) and walked away with a combined total of 40,000,000$+.. so basically we got a fight where there's 2 BIG draws involved and it doesn't sell as much as a fight where there is only 1 draw, what does that tell you about Floyd's drawing power? he has much more of it
My point is that I believe both broadcaster and promoter have been awful quite post-fight about what a successful blockbuster event this was. I believe they had higher expectations for the reach this fight would have and the implications on a future fight between Floyd and Pac.
I believe this fight sold well below their expectations and instead of trying to pull the wool over our eyes about what a huge seller this was....they are remaining silent about its results.Comment

For me personally.... minimum expectations were 1.7 (which I thought was attainable..... what a wake up call)Comment

No announcement from Richard Schaffer at Golden Boy Promotions.....
Nothing from Mark Taffett at HBO....
Isn't it common practice for Broadcasters and Promoters to make a big deal about the ppv numbers they do?
They why so quiet about Mayweather v Mosley?
I had to dig around to find that "Broadcasting and Cable" announced on 5/11 that Mayweather v Mosley did 1.4 mil ppv buys. (see -- Broadcasting & Cable, 5/11/2010 2:46:58 PM By David Tanklefsky)
I am a Money May fan and I bought the fight..... I also bought the 2 mill ppv buy estimate that Golden Boy and HBO were selling pre-fight..... I thought it was in the bag!!! (I never believed 2.5 - 4 mill were possible.... but surely 1.5 to 1.7 mill.... right?)
WRONG!!!!!!!
The truth is PAC fans were right all along..... Mayweather / Mosley wasn't going to ever come close to even 2 million buys!
Experts and Floyd Fans couldn't have been more wrong about Floyd being a Mega PPV SuperStar (and I include myself in this group...)
I'm resigned to the fact that due to the lack of any official announcement from Golden Boy Promotions or HBO:
1) Mayweather / Mosley and its 1.4 mill ppv buys.... was a disappointment to HBO and Golden Boy.
2) With all the additional promotion (media coverage, 24/7, ect...) the Mayweather / Mosley fight only sold 700k more than Pac / Clottey.
3) We will never hear any official word from HBO or Golden Boy Promotions on why their projections were so wrong on this supposed mega-fight.
4) Any negotiation advantage that Mayweather assumed he would/should have because of ppv drawing power is now out the window.
If May / Mosley can't sell 1.5 mil.... forget Mayweather / PAC outselling the Mayweather / De La Hoya Fight.
Richard Schaffer and Mark Taffet must be still trying to figure out how to spin this into a positive...... the problem is this time..... there is no answer!!!Comment

I am a fan of Floyd, but I never expected May Mosley (MM) to break every record (except for highest all black fighter PPV). Problem with that matchup was always it didn't involve enough fan demographics. Pac, Marquez, and Cotto all have their own demographics that support them and bolster any fight possibility. MM just involved one demographic and Shane didn't seem like a big enough threat to Floyd to snag in a lot of the casual fans. MM was more a pure boxing fan matchup and it did get the whole boxing world hyped for it.. But casuals weren't all that excited about it. Only Floyd's excellent on camera skills got the casuals that did buy the fight to buy it, cuz it just didn't excite ppl that didn't know nothing about boxing.
For those reasons, I was actually pleasantly surprised at 1.4.. Talk about a moment where the sport of boxing celebrated itself. I think GBP is satisfied. they ALL are laughing their way to the bank, making off like thieves in the night.
As for Pac May, that fight could still break every record. It has every ingredient for it: massive build up, multiple fan demographics, and a great appeal to both purist boxing fans and casuals. Pac sold 700k against Clottey for goodness sakes.. Clottey has what, two fans? I'd even go so far as to say some ppl that would order a Pac fight normally, didn't, because they were so dissapoonted in Pacs chosen opponent. Pac is a big draw, May is a big draw. No reason to think this fight wouldn't shatter every PPV record.Comment
