No announcement from Richard Schaffer at Golden Boy Promotions.....

Nothing from Mark Taffett at HBO....

Isn't it common practice for Broadcasters and Promoters to make a big deal about the ppv numbers they do?

They why so quiet about Mayweather v Mosley?

I had to dig around to find that "Broadcasting and Cable" announced on 5/11 that Mayweather v Mosley did 1.4 mil ppv buys. (see -- Broadcasting & Cable, 5/11/2010 2:46:58 PM By David Tanklefsky)

I am a Money May fan and I bought the fight..... I also bought the 2 mill ppv buy estimate that Golden Boy and HBO were selling pre-fight..... I thought it was in the bag!!! (I never believed 2.5 - 4 mill were possible.... but surely 1.5 to 1.7 mill.... right?)

WRONG!!!!!!!

The truth is PAC fans were right all along..... Mayweather / Mosley wasn't going to ever come close to even 2 million buys!

Experts and Floyd Fans couldn't have been more wrong about Floyd being a Mega PPV SuperStar (and I include myself in this group...)

I'm resigned to the fact that due to the lack of any official announcement from Golden Boy Promotions or HBO:

1) Mayweather / Mosley and its 1.4 mill ppv buys.... was a disappointment to HBO and Golden Boy.

2) With all the additional promotion (media coverage, 24/7, ect...) the Mayweather / Mosley fight only sold 700k more than Pac / Clottey.

3) We will never hear any official word from HBO or Golden Boy Promotions on why their projections were so wrong on this supposed mega-fight.

4) Any negotiation advantage that Mayweather assumed he would/should have because of ppv drawing power is now out the window.

If May / Mosley can't sell 1.5 mil.... forget Mayweather / PAC outselling the Mayweather / De La Hoya Fight.

Richard Schaffer and Mark Taffet must be still trying to figure out how to spin this into a positive...... the problem is this time..... there is no answer!!!

Followed every one of his fights.... grew up in his home town of GR.... watched him hit the heavy bag at age 12 at the Pride Boxing Gym on South Division..... attended all of his fights in Michigan (professional and golden gloves).... could tell you most anything about any of his fights.....

I would have to say I'm more a fan than most..... and a realist as well...

Before all the fame and glory... a very nice, respectful, humble kid (and this was when he was a multiple National Golden Gloves Champion and knew he would be a multiple world champion....)

Even at a very young age... you could ask him " You gonna be a world champ like your uncle some day "? .... and he would reply in a nice humble non sarcastic tone ... " yeah but Im gonna be the best Mayweather ever"!

And he believed it..... and he was right!

But similar to alot of people who have the responsibility of managing money and glory...... it changes you. I still see glimpses of the young floyd in the 24/7 footage when he is alone with his kids.

I don't fault him for his image and persona that he plays to market himself and to sell tickets..... its just not pleasant to see.
