I'm green as well, and I usually spar two days a week. Typically anywhere from 3-6 1:30-2:00 rounds. I'm 5'7-5'8, and currently weigh anywhere from 150-155lbs(My goal is to cut to 140lbs) depending upon what I'm eating and drinking. I spar this one dude who's been at the gym for 3 years, and another who's been there for a year and a half. I'll tell you this, being naturally athletic does wonders. I played nigh every sport in High School, and it's translated well into the ring. I need to work on my stamina and technique though.

Yeah it deff would help being athletic to start...140 is deff a competitive weightclass(in New York at least)

I just gotta work on reactionary skills myself...I'll see a punch coming but its not natural yet for me to duck it...

I think I can take a good shot though...I'm around 114 and guys around 119-125 have hit me flush plenty of times and I haven't been hurt...although of course I aint tryna get hit like that anymore

Only time I felt pain so far is when I got caught at the beginning of the jaw on the side, must be near a nerve...as soon as it landed, instant headache...lol, other than that the punches don't hurt...

I'm amateur also, I recently had a shoulder injury/surgery so I've been out the past 14 months. But before that it was usually like 1:30 hours a day for 5 days a week. I was sparring a minimum of 5 rounds each day, a lot of people say our gym spars too much but my trainer believes the best preperation for a fight is to fight. He's realllll oldschool

Indeed. I played every sport in high school, football being my sport. Playing RB has tremendously helped my lateral movement, overall speed, and ability to duck and slip punches. I'd say evasiveness is my greatest overall trait thus far.

As far as my punch resistance is concerned? I think I can take a fairly decent punch. I haven't yet been hurt, and I don't tend to get hit until I gas.

Well man considering that the gym I train at has a lot of people we all have to take turns with the mitts, heavybag, speed bag, etc. We do take breaks waiting for these things to be open. 3 1/2 hours is how long I am at the gym why would I lie about that?

It makes much more sense now that you mentioned waiting times between mitts, heavy-bags, speed bag, etc. But because 3 1/2 hours is otherworldly.

Oh well sorry I misinformed you guys about that. But yeah there are waiting times for all the equipment there, that's why I try and reach for high intensity for my workouts because of the waiting times. But I didn't see why people were getting on me about me running 2 miles every morning? Is that too little?

Damn.. Look at the responses to this question on yahoo answers..

most pro boxers train as much as they like. if their preparing for a fight they'll train anywhere from 3 to 8 hrs, not including conditioning. which takes up another couple of hours.
A lot of fighters barely train at all until they have a fight on the books. Once they get into camp though, it's a full-time job; 8 hours a day at least

depends on how many rouns your willing to go if your wanting 14 rounds 14 hours if you want 5 rounds 5 hours
