Im not hating on Ward i was just wondering if he is as good as everyone is saying he is.

I dont know anything about his fights before Kessler, so does he have a good record, fighting top level opponents.

The win over kessler was impressive , but we know kessler was not the boxer he was pre-calzaghe

So honestly, is Ward eilte in the SMW division?
or did he just get a good win over a 'past-prime' kessler
what evidence is there he is elite in the SMW division?

and kessler beating froch doesnt mean kessler is in his prime still, froch is a one dimensional bum

Kessler is still very much in his prime. He hasnt taken any punishment at all. Not even from light hitting Cazlaghe.

    Ward beat the Champion.

Kessler was in his prime, I don't see why he wouldn't be. He did not take much much punishment in the Calzaghe fight and he looked very much in his prime by knocking out Danilo Haussler with a jab and destroying Gysmyr Perdomo. The reason that Kessler looked so bad against Ward is simple... Kessler is not that good, he only looks good against bums, he is a b-level fighter. So quit it with the excuses please it's pathetic.

You're so quick to insult and discredit these fighters as if all three of them wouldn't make you cry and bleed within 20 seconds in the ring.

Kessler is a very good fighter, so he certainly deserves a lot of credit for that win.

It could be argued that he shouldn't be rated too highly just yet because he hasn't faced a wide range of styles at the highest level. But it's not as if people are putting him at the top of the P4P lists or anything. I'd say he deserves all of the credit he's received so far.

Green and Dirrell are good fighters, if he can dominate them like he did Kessler and Miranda then I'd certainly consider him 'elite'.

Wards camp is smart, they said they studied the hell out of Kessler and saw many flaws in Kessler against Calzaghe. I'm picking Ward to go undefeated in this tourney.

Ward does not have much more to prove. Dominating Kessler and Miranda and winning Olympic gold he looks like the best at 168. Bute looks good also but has more to prove then Ward.

There were a lot of head games going on that night in Oakland.

                - Ward's team gave Kessler a hard time about his hand wraps even though there was nothing wrong with them and delayed the start of the fight just to throw him off

                - the crooked home referee Jack Reiss allowed Ward to deliberately headbutt, hold & hit, and punch off the break

                - the crooked home referee Reiss kept going over to Kessler's corner between rounds and admonishing him for nothing, just to mess him up mentally

All that ruined Kessler's focus and he didn't do well. Kessler isn't as good as he was pre-Calzaghe, but he's still good enough to defeat Ward in a fair fight.

Lucian Bute's KO win over Miranda was much more impressive than Ward's 12 round decision win.

So if a 4 time worldchampion is a B-level fighter what does that make you? An ignorant idiotic poster who happens to be a mental nut-case?

Topic: Ward's win is a great feat. He upset the no.1 in the division in dominating fashion although a little rough stuff and home-cooking gave him some advantages.
