Both Floyd and Pacquiao came from 106 when they were both 16 years old. The difference was, Pacquiao became pro at a much earlier age than Mayweather which made his lower weight championships count in terms of being a pro while Mayweather stayed in amateur boxing until after the 1996 Olympics.
During that time, Floyd went through 90 amateur fights winning 84 of those for a record of 84-6. Philippines allows boxers to become pro at an earlier age than in the United States.
I don't know about anyone else but if you ask me, going 84-6 as an amateur during that timeframe is a lot better of an accomplishment than someone who was rushed into pros and only going in about what, 15 fights? And got KO'd in one of them in the 3rd round? And it's well known that the level of competition and skills of boxers fighting locally in the Philippines is extremely low. I know, I was born there, and even though I came to NYC at the age of 3, my family visited back there very often and I still speak my native tongue fluently. My father listens to FIlipino radio stations being broadcasted on the internet daily, so growing up, I heard a lot of what was going on as well as knowing my own country. So I can say my words have decent credibility when I speak about my own country.
Let's be honest, if Floyd had gone pro at the same age Pacquiao did, his lower-weight wins would've been championship belts that counted towards his professional record as well, and since he went up to a higher weight class that Pac never went to (154 vs an undrained De La Hoya at junior-middleweight), Floyd would have had championships in EIGHT weight divisions, and Pac with seven.
