Pavlik isn't the champ anymore so I don't think he should call the shots at all. The fight should be made for 160. It's only fair to Martinez who went from 154 to challenge Pavlik at 160.
If this rematch doesn't go through, Pavlik just needs to move on and wait til this Super Six Tourney is done and fight one of the 6 from there and start a new career at a new division.Comment

Pavlik won 4 rounds at most to me thats not a close fight and each round won by each fighter was pretty decisive.Comment

Going into the 9th Pavlik was winning the fight. A rematch could be a lot closer if Pavlik does not get cut. And a new cut man would be a good idea. Maybe a small cut Pavlik could deal with but those were gushers.Last edited by Holtol; 05-08-2010, 05:59 PM.Comment

I think this is a very good move by Team Martinez. At this point, he really has nothing to prove by challenging Pavlik again. I mean he defeated him relatively easy the first time and will just as easily do the next time. The fight that boxing fans wants to see anyway is a rematch between him and Paul Williams.Comment

I think any Pavlik insistence upon a catchweight is indicative of his own struggles to maintain his weight. For Pavlik to be putting on 30 pounds in between fights is ridiculous. Dropping anything more than 15 is going to have a serious adverse effect on your performance.
Martinez is the smaller fighter that moved up in weight so any advantage would be too much to overcome IMO.
I'd cite the Pacquiao-Morales third fight, where Pacquiao had it contractually stipulated that any third fight would have to contested at the previously agreed upon weight of 130 pounds and not an ounce more.Comment

We saw how that worked for Morales before the aforementioned second Pacquiao clash.Comment
