It's almost impossible to compare them because today is so much different then years ago. From what I've seen of Sugar Ray and I read his book, he was the fn man. You people that say you haven't seen much of him, then look him up. You got to watch the good fights.

Floyd is something very special though. I do believe he is one of the greatest of all time to step inside that ring. Very gifted. I think if he beats Pacman, then he will be one of the 3 greatest boxers ever with Ali & Robinson. Mayweather just doesn't beat people, he literally takes them to school, K thru 12th grade. It's amazing. He really impressed me against Mosley, I really thought Mosley was going to knock him out, especially after the 2nd round. But Floyd showed why he is a world class fighter in the making of becoming an all time great.

I think it would be a very crazy fight to watch, but we will never know who would win that fight...

LIsten, I have watched alot of video on Sugar Ray Robinson. His defence was not the best. He kept his hands too low in front of his chest. Didn't have great head movement, and his jab was ok. He got hit way too much. Floyd is the most accurate puncher in boxing history. Look it up. To say he doesn't stand a chance with his defence ,smarts, speed, power, great movement, stamina, great chin, great head movement, great offence, heart, and skill is just out right ******. Floyd is a threat against any of the all time greats. Watch Robinson vs Lamotta and then tell me if Floyd can compete with the Sugar man.

Not a fool who just throws his hands hoping to land a shot while walking into punches.
        Really insightful excerpt - Thanks.

I need to read a lot more. Most boxing related writing I've read has been of biographical nature, personal lives and statistics, as opposed to contemporaneous insights into the mechanics and nuances of boxing like that.

ray would win but it wouldn't be because he's more skilled. he would just be to big and powerful for floyd to **** with.

but saying ray wasn't as skilled as mayweather isn't a slight. its baffles me how some people take offense to **** like that. and ray is my favorite fighter.

How much is "a lot"? Does what you've seen represent a span of the man's oeuvre or just a section of it?

Just wondering if I've seen as much or less than you (so that I may learn in the latter case) - name the fights, por favor?

Mayweather still has a lot to prove but as it stands he is in the top 2 just now, however i have watched a lot of Robinson & have to say i don't think Mayweather would have gone the distance with him. Robinson was a fantastic finisher, had a lot of power, was as fast as Mayweather, was a total worrior & was very very skillfull. Floyd for me is just a bit to picky as to who he fights & when.

                  BUT i can say this..

There are a few fighters id pick to beat floyd in the past few eras..

1 - aaron pryor - just tenacious.. non stop, can bob and weave and get in there.. can trade and has a sick chin..
2 - roberto duran - a huge lt weight and the same thing i wrote for pryor
3 - meldrick taylor - slick, in your face, fastest combinations ive seen on a fighter..
Missed this the first time. Thanks, BBoy.

YES on Pryor. One of my favorite fighters. Currently trying to compile a HQ highlight/tribute video to honor his greatness.

Duran, for some reason, just never moved me all that much, though I recognize his excellence and the enjoyability of his fights - just a personal failing/idiosyncrasy.

                  I like Taylor a lot.

Mayweather would've had success but I think Robinson's combinations, power, height and tenacity would ultimately win him the fight.
