Sugar Ray Robinson vs Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Most of you have never seen Robinson fight, and like sheep, are merely advocating his superiority based on word of mouth, and other peoples opinions.

In my opinion, based upon what I've seen, SRR wasn't even the greatest "sugar" of all time. In my opinion that title goes to Leonard.

As for SRR vs. Mayweather? I'm not sure. I've seen more of Mayweather, and not enough of Robinson.

As already said, can any of us even judge this? SRR Welterweight fights on video are so hard to find, unless you personally saw him most of us have very little idea how good he was.

I dont think 15 rounds would affect Floyd badly, and i dont think 12 would have a negative affect on Robinson. I cant see either getting stopped, probably Robisnon by SD but could go either way

Some people have been saying SRR, SRL, Hearns, Oldtime Welterweight X, etc. would beat Floyd because they are too big. I don't think that type of reasoning is valid because size does not win fights except for heavyweights, and even for them there are other factors that are more important (which is why 217 lb David Haye was able to beat 316 lb Nikolay Valuev). Aside from heavyweights, everyone else has a weight limit they have to be under which means that boxers with a naturally heavier build will either have to lose muscle mass or dehydrate themselves to make weight. Both approaches have some major disadvantages, which might explain why two of the smallest boxers in the WW division are currently dominating everyone who tries to fight against them. Besides, SRR was at his best in his youth when he weighed around 144 rather than later on when he weighed around 160.

Secondly, for those predicting an early KO: almost half of SRR's fights ended in decisions. Expecting him to KO someone who has great defense and has never been close to being knocked out is a little unreasonable. A fight between SRR and Floyd Mayweather is almost certain to go the distance. SRR is the GOAT and I think I would favor him to win but it should be a very competitive fight.

Volume puncher? I can't come up with too many names who had as many one punch knockouts as Robinson did. About his decisions, Robinson admitted to carrying many opponents at the request of the mob, for example Charley Fusari.
