      theres a big difference from 1995 and 2010 in terms of technology ...also a big difference in the state of the economy. if floyd fought mosley in 1995, it would have done 2.5-3 million buys. if tyson fought mcneleey in 2010 it would do 800-900k buys because the other 1 million or so people would be streaming it probably
      You can't just say "probably" and expect it to be fact.

      The facts are;

      Tyson and De La Hoya both have bigger PPV numbers combined than Mayweather or Pacquiao (I know you didn't mention Pac but I thought I'd bring him in)

          I also like how we are comparing the pay-per-view prowess of a Heavyweight knockout artist vs. a Welterweight defensive fighter.

          Floyd must be doing something right.

            Yeah you did a good job supporting one side of the argument.

            What about the black box people used to steal cable?

            What about the fact that much much much less homes had access to PPV then? Now even college kids with a ****ty appt. and bad debt will have a cable box.

            I just find it very unlikely that Floyd has even scratched the surface of Tyson's popularity.

              Dude these are all guesses you're making. That doesn't support an argument.

              There are much more homes with cable boxes now than ever. Fact. There are more people capable of watching the PPV's now. Fact.

              How many people really watch it on the internet anyway? Hardcore fans. The mainstream public doesn't even know about streams as much as you would think.

                      The internet is one of the things that helped build Mayweather's popularity. Without it, he would've done A LOT less numbers.

                      In the days without internet, Tyson managed to do over 1.5 million buys with an unknown club fighter. That's amazing.

                      If you say there's so many people watching Mayweather's fights on streams, then there would probably be a lot more that would watch Tyson's fights on streams. I mean, seriously. Who do you think casual fans would rather watch? A fighter known to knock people out in brutal fashion or a defensive fighter who doesn't take many risks?

                      Tyson is likely the second most popular fighter in the history of the sport, after Ali. Mayweather isn't anywhere close.
