I agree I always thought 2 mill was too much I thought 1.5 was reasonable. The DLH-Mayweather fight had the luxury of a direct appeal to multiple demographics as well. 1.2 mil would still be a phenomenal number though. I still expect the #'s to be criticized though because People have higher expectations for floyd than Manny. When Floyd gets hit everybody has something to say etc.Comment

Mayweather - Mosely wasn't "...the most hyped and advertised" fight of all time. Does anyone remember Floyd - Oscar??? They had prime time TV commercials, not to mention the cover of Sports Illustrated! Can anyone say "The fight that will save boxing." In reality, Floyd sold this fight on his own cuz Shane has absolutely zero PPV cred. Big ticket sales at Staples w/ the Mexican Margarito is a ****-load different than people paying $55 in their homes during a recession. I think both Floyd and Manny would agree to 50/50, but that's only if a certain somebody would take a few blood tests.Comment

Realistically, doing 1 Mill PPV buys these days isn't bad at all. But considering the sponsors, promotion (viral and TV), HBO 24/7, etc...1.2 Mill does look a little short considering the hype.
But also....I know for a fact there were several Live Internet Streams with 2 of the rooms having 65K viewers watching (off 1 site alone and there were I believe 6 working streams from what I was told). Plus, you have to take into account that a lot of people go to 1 place to see a fight as opposed to every single person interested in the fight buying it themselves. There were 30 people where I was at, so think about what everyone else in the country was doing too.
When they were talking 3 Mill buys, I thought to myself, "You gotta be kidding me" lol.Comment

Its too early to tell. Wait til GBP comes up with the figures. It will probably reach 2 million.Comment

I had about 20 people over watching this fight, and really I'd say a good average is about 5 people per buy at least. Taking that into account over 5 million people saw the fight just on PPV. Not counting theaters, bars, casino's and internet streams, and also this is better news for Floyd than Pacman IMO. Cotto has a far bigger fan base than Mosley ever had and JMM certainly has more fans than Mosley as well and yet Mayweather had a bigger buy rate than that fight. Also, in the Cotto/Paq fight where the fight was more or less a toss up of who was going to win where as the May/Mosley fight 95% of the people were picking Mayweather to win, and by decision no less, people still bought at minimum the same rate as they did for a Paq/Cotto fight.
Paq/Cotto had a war being expected with knockdowns guaranteed and a proven dance partner for Manny. The expectations of a Mayweather/Mosley bout was, Mayweather to win by decision with Mosley winning maybe 3-4 rounds, that was the general consensus I got at least and yet people bought the Mayweather bout at the same buy rate. While Mosley is a better draw than Clottey, the fact that it still did as much as Paq/Cotto and smashed Paq/Clottey its clear Mayweather is a bigger draw than Pacman, which I attribute greatly to 24/7, he simply makes people want to watch him lose so damn bad they have to watch it.Comment
