Lennox won that fight according to the rules that night. If a cut was caused by a punch than if the fight is stopped that person loses by TKO. I don't see how that leaves a bad impression if the commission followed the rules. Vitali was ahead but he was slowing down and I think Lewis won the last two or three rounds of that fight.

Facts regarding the match between Lewis and Klitscho.

      FACTS

      - Lennox won the fight fair and square.
      - The cut Vitali recieved was brutal and was a result of a deadly punch by Lennox.
      - Vitali was winning the match on scorecards.
      - Lennox got a good ass whooping.

With all this side, I do believe that Vitali should have gotten a rematch. If Vitali wasn't the winning the match and the referee stopped it because of his cut, we wouldn't be having this conversation. But because of the fact that Vitali was winning the match and Lennox was getting his ass whooped, there should have been a rematch.

it leaves a bad impression when the champ gets his ass beat and doesnt look for a rematch to cement his "legacy".

It doesn't leave a bad impression on the sport but it does leave a little mark on his career but not too big of a mark.

Everything you say is correct except you fail to mention that LL was slowing too, even though he had won a couple of the late rounds...remember he barely made it to his stool at the end of the 6th, both guys were gone and neither guy had ever fought at such a torrid pace.

I am not a fool that is going to say that VK had that fight...it was 50-50 and if there was an edge it would have to go to LL but that fight was only going to go a couple more rounds if that and who knows who would have wound up on there ass? I like to envision a Rocky/Apollo double knockdown scenario...both guys were completely gassed.

Again LL won but the chapter on LL v. VK should not have been closed...cult fans were deprived of a HW superfight...and how often do those come along?

it was just a very smart move by lewis, he retired with a win and retired as champion, and defeated ever fighter he ever faced, he knew guys like ali went on for too long, and at 39 he knew it was a good time, just a smart move.

Reading through this thread, I have seen you post some of the more ignorant notions regarding this fight in quite some time.

Lewis got his ass beat when Klitschko ended up looking like this?

Lennox Lewis landed 50% of his power shots, and that was the difference in the fight. He was the stronger more devistating puncher, and that was evident in the condition of Vitali's face:

They both elected to go toe to toe and slug it out, and that was Vitali's downfall. Anyone who brings up the fact Vitali was ahead by two rounds in a 6 round fight is trying to blow smoke. WHO CARES what the scoring was in a fight that was STOPPED because of massive damage to one fighters face?

Also, you said there was ONE cut.

There were FIVE. One below and above the eye, one below and above his lips, and one in the roof of his mouth. Estimates were between 60 - 80 stitches.

The ONE cut that was the worst...

was difinitvly caused by a punch.

You're 0-3 in your assinine assertions.

Add that to denying Lewis is a top 10 all time Heavyweight and I think you've just proven you have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm not the biggest fan of Lewis (yes this is probably because I'm such a Holyfield fan) but Klitscko was headed to being knocked out. Don't get me wrong, I respect his guts in that fat ass well as the ones he's done since, but Lewis reigned in that fight towardthe end.

there's nothing cowardly about it, he beat klitschko fair and square and retired as champion, which very few other fighters have done.
as i said just a smart move.
