i still think it's an unfair comparison for the fact that lewis was a champion at the time of the rahman and mccall fights, and those guys where only challengers, i have said in previous threads that i thought it was fair to say lewis was not a risk taker, but he still never ducked anybody.
I think some people miss the point about the Lewis Klitschko fight

Am I wrong here?
Yes, and it's starting to get comical.
Wlad was not ready for a fight with Lewis and there was never any discussion from him or his camp about lobbying for that fight. And in case you can't remember (or have blocked it out) Wlad was brutally knocked out by an inactive fringe contender before Vitali got a crack at Lewis.
It seems to me like your motivation has turned to taking shots at Lewis because there isn't anything left to object about the threads origional subject.
I've said 3 times now that Lewis probably should have fought Mercer again, but there are instances with nearly every great champion winning a close fight that didn't see a rematch. So what?
And it would have been something if Lewis didn't give Vitali a rematch and fought someone else, but he retired. He was 38, and that was his porogative.Last edited by Bozo_no no; 06-16-2005, 02:30 PM.Comment

Just becausue in hindsight Wlad was not ready for that fight does not mean ****...everyone in the boxing world thought he was ready...
Who knows how far negotiations got or if they ever happened between the two camps but on the surface which is all we can go by is that LL never had any intentions of fighting at the time what was considered the best fighter in the division besides LL.
Yeah Wlad was kaoyed by Sanders so what...HBO wanted LL v. Wlad way before that fight...and so did the rest of the boxing world. I remember Wlad talking about it after every win he notched on his belt saying that before the fight he wanted to play chess with LL.
I even ran into Larry Mercahnt in a Las Vegas elevator and he told me straight from his mouth that the Lewis camp was avoiding Wlad and that the fight would never happen. I remember being very dperessed after hearing that form Merchant... I know that MErchant and the HBO gang was all over Wlads nuts so their opinions at the time were definately biased but the fact remains that this fight was on the table and was being talked about all of the time...it was for a time thee HW matchup to be made.
Your right Wlad was not ready and would never have been ready but that is monday morning quarterbacking the situaion...Michael Grant wasn't ready either yet the Lewis camp was all to eager to get him in the ring...why not Wlad who had built up a much better resume then Grant had?
Hindsight is whatever but LL's perfect exit strategy would have been to grant Wlad the fight before the Sanders fights...this is no pipe dream the fight easily could have been made...LL would have brutally starched Wlad and he could have road off into the sunset.
Instead he chose Johnson and then at the last moment picked the wrong brother...LL could have fought whoever he wanted...he did not want to fight Wlad, this much is obvious...
There I go again Bozo...speaking about stuff/inside info that I really don't have a clue about...how can I just speak straight facts...do you have a newsletter I can purchase?Comment

Now you're moving into the realm of complete non sense.
It seems to me like you're now trying to slam Lewis for not figthing Wlad Klitschko, the clear lesser of the two brothers, a fighter who was brutally KO'd by a fringe contender before the Lewis Vitali fight.
So your (ever evolving point) now seems to be that Lennox Lewis was ducking Wlad Klitschko?
You can't be serious.Comment

Come on people!

I am not Wlad guy or a VK first off...
Secondly you say that VK was the better of the two and your right however I would bet my life that when Wlad was killing Byrd, McCline and Mercer you did not think the same thing...Wlad was the better of the twqo brothers, or at least that is what everyone said...well ecpet for you...you knew all along that Wlad had a glass jaw and that Vitaly was the better of the two.
You can laugh now aqbout Lewis avoiding Wlad and say no way he would have done that...it makes no sence at this moment in time because we all know Wlad has nothing but when Wlad was winning fight after fight impressively there was a reason why LL was not getting him in the ring...because he was the heir apparent..are you telling me you dont remember this?Comment

I'm telling you that you've gone through a list of weak meaningless accusations to (for some reason) try and discredit LL, and have arrived at this one, the weakest yet.
You have no point here. Wlad was still developing beating Byrd and McCline, and while he looked promising, he was not ready for a shot at Lewis, and that was evident in him getting starched vs Sanders.
Could it have been a fight that was made 2 or 3 years ago? Yes.
Is it a knock agaisnt Lewis that it didn't happen? Absolutely not.
So what you're trying to say is that Lewis ducked Wlad Klitschko, and that's a knock agaisnt him?
As I said, this is getting weaker and weaker with each of your posts. Why, after wanting to change the subject from the Lewis Vitali fight, are you so dead set on discrediting Lewis with these trivial critisisms?Last edited by Bozo_no no; 06-16-2005, 03:11 PM.Comment

I just want to say that Vitali Klitschko holds the WBC belt and is the champion untill he looses he is the champ. U can say whatever u want about him but he is the best in the division and he will prove it in his next defense and in years to come...Comment

This all started when Bozo posted facts about the Klitschko's in another thread a while back. All he pointed out was:
1.) Vitali is not the only heavyweight champion in the world.
2.) Vitali has not proven himself to be the undisputed champion because he has not beat any of the other champions.
3.) Vitali quit against Chris Byrd
4.) Vitali lost the fight with Lennox Lewis by technical stoppage.
Comparison:
This thread has many people who would give the victory over Klitscko by Lennox....to Vitali himself.
Jorge Barrios was ahead on the cards in the fight against Freitas. Freitas knocked him out in the 12th round, in a comeback fashion.
Does that mean that Barrios was the Moral Victor? NO.
Why does Lewis have to endure so many critiques about his performance when he stopped Vitali Klitschko legitimately from a cut that was result of landing over
50% of his Power Shots
