Mayweather doesn't want the belt because he doesn't want to have to fight who the WBA or any other sanctioning body wants him to fight. Floyd doesn't want to fight the young, hungry kid who has come up through the ranks and is rated the #1 contender. Floyd only wants to fight big money fights. He can say belts only collect dust all he wants but in reality he is really saying screw mandatory title defenses. I want to fight who I want, where I want, when I want, for this amount of $$$....

All of you guys who feel more fighters should follow suit obviously don't care about the young, upcoming fighters either. How are they going to get title shots when no one wants to fight them? The system we currently have that ranks the fighters forces the champions to have to defend their belts against these challengers. I think that the sanctioning organizations need to be revamped and the ranking system obviously needs to be tweeked (how can a fighter be ranked by one organization and not ranked by another) but feel the way things are done now is good for the sport. Prizefighters fight for purses (money) but the main goal should still be to get to the top of your division and win the hardware (belts). If this is your goal you're going to make money. You can still fight other challengers that might not be your mandatories because you only have a few mandatories a year and have plenty of time to schedule big money non-mandatory showdowns.

Sometimes holding a belt keeps you from fighting who the people want to see fight your ABC bely may not recognize a fighter who seem to be fighting under a different stable. Like on ********* they have like 4 different santioning bodies. Check it out in the Welterweight division, Floyd is ranked 1 on the WBC, 1 on the WBA, MIA on the IBF and MIA on the WBO. If you can do it to make the real fights happen geat. the young guys will just be fighting the other young guys who are also going for belts.Usually the belt means something but in like the case with the WBO, manny is the champ and Floyd is not ranked so Manny could not fight him because some unknown fighter is the mandatory.

Cmon guys really? Don't we know Mayweather by now? It's obvious he doesnt want the belt cause he would have to defend it against whomever the sanctioning body tells him to. And thas not how Floyd does his ussual business of hand picking opponents. Could you imagine if Floyd won the WBA belt and all of the sudden the WBA rates PWill as the #1 contender? Can you imagine Floyds face if that would happen?

I know right! It doesn't matter that Paul Williams intends on fighting 13 pounds heavier than the welterweight division and that he actually wants to win a title at 160 AND that the entire boxing world is calling for a Martinez-Williams match that Williams has a better chance of winning now this time around. Williams would totally be rated number one mandatory challenger.....

Which is ridiculous. The belt being at stake adds absolutely nothing to this fight, there's no reason the WBA should be getting a 3% cut for it. Make it a flat fee and it might make more financial sense for a fighter in this situation.

Good for Mayweather. Belts truly mean nothing, especially for well established fighters of Mayweathers level. More fighters should give the bird to these sanctioning bodies.

To be Fair, the Sanctioning Bodies have more Fees and surcharges than your Local Bank. I do find it hilarious that Money Mayweather has problems making payments but that has nothing to do with the Fight itself. We all wish Mayweather would love the sport more than he loves himself but what can you do at this point of Floyds career. I really dont care if a title is on the Line and i wonder if Floyd knows he will have issues making weight, which will also be a reason this a Non Title Fight. Who know, who Cares and i think it will not matter in the long run because Mosley will Stop Mayweather anyway. I just hope Mayweather doesnt Blame his hands as the reason why he lost.
