Man **** that, I've dealt with addicts and mentally ill people my whole life. Fact of the matter is this was a grown ass man. He's had a drinking problem for how many years now? There comes a point where if a person REFUSES help/treatment what can you do? He crossed a line, sick in the head or not only the worst scum of the world would do this to his own family.

Good riddance and its too damn bad the didn't take care of himself before he put his hands on his wife.

I dont feel he should be excused for his actions violently crazy people should be killed, but the fact he is a grown man plays no factor in his behavior. He was sick he obviously was drinking to self medicate so expecting him to stop isnt necessarily an option. You are using the same criteria to morally judge a psychotic man as you would a person who doesnt have the same problems and it doesnt work that way.

Valero as a personality is an enigma. Nobody here really knows what was going on with him or what he was battling. His troubles were lived away from the brunt of western media glare, which makes it all the more difficult to know or understand anything about the man.

The only insight many of us have into his character is the singular ferocity he showed in the ring.

I just wish these last 6 weeks hadn't happened and that he'd instead gotten his life to some kind of stable place where he could carry on working toward a positive future.

That would have been better for (in order of importance) his beautiful family, himself and boxing fans.

When I think of Valero ending his life hanging from the bars of a jail cell, the feeling I'm left with is not one of retribution, but of emptiness. There's no satisfaction to come of any of it.

Mental illness or addiction (this guy was probably an addict, not mentally ill) is no excuse for one's actions. Your wrong, a grown ass man, addict or not, is responsible for their actions and that includes accepting help (as his family has stated they tried in the past). You could argue that almost any murderer is psychotic or mentally ill, does that excuse or lessen what they do just because nobody helped them?

you know what would give me satisfaction?

paying me the $50 you owe me for the cotto-pacquiao fight.

This exactly. Tragic situation for the kids and family.

People posting comments that "they're no judge and won't judge another man because blah blah" can shove it. What a crock of ****.

This isn't fantasy land and accountability is something that is too easily put aside these days. This guy murdered someone. Not everyone does this....not every mentally ill person does this. This guy is a murderer. Rapists and murderers get absolutely nothing from me.
