this is what im talking about. floyd fought 5 full divisions above his best weight, no catchweight, no stipulations, and fought for a legit title in the division and its as if the fight never happened.

Retroactive criticism, this is what im talking about. you people just believe what you want and there are so many like minded morons, it gets passed on like its the truth.
So you really believe Oscar was anything more than an exibition fighter?

Did not fight in 2005, came back to fight Mayorga in May of 2006 then fought Mayweather in may of 2007. He was not fat in the ring but in between fights Oscar gained a lot of weight. You can't treat your body like that and have staying power.
That's why in football top notch atheletes trained throughout the year not get fat and wait for the mini-camp.
The point is "OSCAR WAS NOT A REAL FIGHTER AT THIS POINT" fighters fight or stay in shape waiting on the next fight, this is not what Oscar did.
The bottom line is Shane is in better shape than Oscar and trains year round so wobbling Oscar does not translate to wobbling Shane.

Well I'm 30 and my undergrad degree is in Finance, with my grad in management. I've been involved in sports all my life, writing first for my college newspaper covering the big east tournament, when guys like Ron Artest were still in school.

Boxing was in my blood passed onto me from my father and subsequently his father. I wrote an essay about Oscar De La Hoya changing the face of boxing sales, as it related to moving boxing away from network television to anHBO subscription model, which I thought would negatively impact the sport's long-term future, anyway it got picked up on a press release and one day I received an email application for a media credential to cover a fight as a member of the press, at that point it just grew from there to where I now write for a few sites and publications, it's more of a labor of love than for money.

I run an online radio sports broadcast also where we interview fighters, trainers and various people in the industry, have a few interviews on youtube also, either way I'm not saying all this to brag, because frankly I got lucky and received an opportunity. I've actually had a few people on this forum call into the show and come with us to fights. I like to share that, especially with younger people it gives them an opportunity to be involved in something they love.

Its such a labor of love that you decided to rub it in a posters face that you "get paid to do this while for them its a hobby".

Considering its such a labor of love and you follow the sport so closely, i dont find any of your posts particularly intriguing and as a poster, i have rarely seen you provide any interesting insight into any of the ongoings of the sport.

Paid or not, truthfully, you are just an average poster on this board and that **** you are pulling by naming your credentials and how decorated you are as far as it being in your "blood" still doesnt translate to you actually knowing what the *** you are talking about, or being able to provide a unique prospective.

Save it, because guys like Silencers arent "paid" and its just a hobby, yet you dwarf posters like him in the knowledge department.

100% right... could u imagine how big a fight floyd vs Cotto would of been if Cotto would of got past margacheato... It would of been a just as big fight as May 1st if not bigger...

I try not to engage in posts like that. Each boxer/fighter has gone
the road that was meant for them. In actuality you cannot compare
Floyd and Manny at 147 because no matter what bigger names Manny
fought, fact of the matter is Floyd became the Lineal WW champion
of the division. Forget about the names Manny fought, Floyd was
on top of the WW division, PERIOD and Manny is not because Shane
was there waiting for him. If you really want to get technical, how
can you compare Manny when he fought one weak champion and
skipped all the threats at 135 while Floyd comp was by far the
better. I like Manny Pacquiao's style and approach but it is
not right to blast one fighter and praise another, especially since
both have done and gotten away with their share of things.
I agree with you as far as the competition Manny faced at 135 being weak. I think he had no long term plans to stay in that division and make it a home. But you certainly can understand the criticism Floyd received since joining 147 right? It's not as if we're not saying he was great prior to 147, he was and still is, we all know that.

My main criticism pertains to the welterweight division and welterweight division only. I certainly think it's a legitimate criticism. I appreciate that you don't respond with the labels, it takes away from actual concerns people have about the sport they love.

              • Mosley is a stronger and harder puncher indeed, but he's not the fighter that can pressure an opponent constantly. I noticed that he always pause or rest to gather or re-energized his power to be more effective. I think he'll be in trouble once floyd decided to fight aggressively later in the rounds, coz floyd knows where to hit you and can do it continuosly. there's nothing wrong about potshoting, its a sign of superiorty against opponent, only good boxer can potshot an opponent effectively coz it requires target, speed and timing and it has a humiliating effects to some opponent coz they sense they're being outbox or outsmart and if they can't adjust to the situation, they loose their composure and focus. Mosley knew about potshoting, but I wonder if he can do something about it.

I believe him but it takes 2 to make fights happen. Floyd shouldn't be held accountable for other fighters that refuse to cooperate with making fights happen and should have to bend over backwards either.
                  i read that too
i would love to see floyd clean out the division.
if what ellerbe says is true, and floyd stands by his man...
then im sure p-will will gladly shed some pounds for a hefty paycheck & a chance to instantly jump up the p4p lists.

as for pacquiao... i gave up on that sh**... part of me wants to think its all promo hype and trying to build it up... but another part of me thinks pac wont take the damn test.... damn shame.

again, thats if floyd beats shane.... IF shane wins, then we got A LOT to look forward to.

Lol relax--If someone comes at you "first"...then you counter--it's all in fun--verbal chess.

I prefer to keep it respectful until someone decides different. By the way coming from the guy who says that I don't provide any "prospective"? <----REALLY DUDE...PROSPECTIVE? Next time lower the levels on the insecurity a little bit, without making yourself look silly while doing it. I don't mind the criticism (it's all fair), just make sure that you don't leave yourself open for the same.
