Do people think Paul Williams will look dumb if Martinez beats Pavlik?

I got a serious question for you, Burner.
How do you think Goosen has done promoting Williams' career? I ask this because Williams has never really developed a fan base. The man has fought mostly out in the West, despite being from the South. Everyone knows that his fight with Winky drew poorly. Don't you think that fight would've done better if both men had fought in say, Florida, closer to both of their hometowns? Do you think if he fought more down there, he'd be a bigger attraction?Comment

Thats fine. There is no money in a Martinez-Williams fight anyway. They last fought in front of 3,000 people. Wherever Haymon and HBO want this fight is where it will be Martinez is in no place to call shots.Comment

LOL yeah Sergio could take the belt and run to Argentina or whatever, but he's going to make zero money. I mean, he'll make enough to live like a king in Argentina, but good luck making real money. Boxing is about opponents and fan appeal, not belts. Plus HBO ain't going to Argentina.
If he doesn't like what Paul's camp is offering he could rematch Pavlik if that fight goes well for him the 1st time.......or maybe make some $$$ off that bum JCC jr. and even Duddy maybe....both fights should be easy wins for him.Comment

Hes from South Carolina and has set up shop in Atlanta but they are getting in where they fit in. Whenever HBO has a night you can usually see Paul. Even on PPV's like the Floyd-Baldi undercard. Wherever HBO is is where Paul will be staying in Georgia fighting bums wont get him anywhere.Comment

I find this hard to believe. I guess I'll look it up. No way Arum would let that fight happen without a rematch clause. If it goes to the cards Martinez will get robbed anyway vs. Pavlik.Comment

I think if they started out from jump street giving him hometown fights then it would work. Some fights in FL, SC, ATL, etc..Comment

And the reason I ask that is because if that happens Martinez is gonna take a lot of shine away from Paul Williams in my view. Sure it will make people think more highly of Paul's abilities as a fighter. But I don't see any other big fight out there for Paul Williams besides Pavlik and a Martinez rematch. I don't see of how Martinez gives him the same deal as the last time they fought when that happens.
Just more of an example of how Paul's career is at a stand still because of Goosen. He gets paid decent from fight to fight. But he'll never break into the mainstream unless he becomes a recognized champ in a weight class. That's what Martinez is gonna do if he ends up beating Pavlik. It will take food off Paul's table pretty much. I think Pavlik would've went through with the fight if Williams and Goosen had been more flexible with the money split. Sure these guys like Burner can complain about how much Williams lost while they were scheduled to fight him. But at the end of the day, it's probably gonna be Martinez with those belts around his waist. Not Williams.
I like Paul Williams. But I think some of his most hardcore fans like Burner fail to see how ****** Williams is gonna look after this weekend. I think he would've beaten Pavlik like Martinez is going to.
Paul should have taken the Pavlik fight, he got too greedy and allowed Martinez to gain the spotlight. Either way though both Pavlik and Martinez indicated they want to fight Williams so he will have a chance to make his own statement at a later time most likely even if he loses the Cintron fight.Comment
