Hagler fought during an amazing era of lightheavyweights, Spinks, Muhhamad, Qwai (Dwight repeatedly insulted and called Hagler out BTW), but Marvin was content to stay at middleweight and make his name off of great welterweights and very good light middleweights. Fair play to Hagler, he had a legendary career at 160 however the real challenges for him were up in weight and he never moved. Had he moved up, my guess is he would have been absolutely crushed by those guys.

      IMO

Pac .....Barrera, Morales, Hatton, Oscar, Cotto. + 112lbs to 147lbs.

      >

      Hagler...Duran, Mugabi, Hearns. 160lbs.

I think moving up so many weights counts for an awful lot.

the biggest names yes but I think people who weren't around to watch Hagler in action easily dismiss the fighters who aren't named Hearns Duran and Leonard.

        Roldan
        Antuofermo
        Minter
        Hamsho
        Sibson

all were really good fighters and solid wins for Hagler as well

not to say who is better than the other because I really would have to think about it longer just adding a little more to the history of Hagler beyond the usual names

I love Hagler, I grew up watching him and the rest of the fabulous four, but Pacquiao is greater overall.

              hagler, its not even close.

pacs career isnt over yet though, so we'll see. but keep in mind hagler fought anyone, if pac keeps cherrypicking he can never surpass the marvelous one.

I agree, I was trying to counter a point of the poster I was replying. I think Mugabi is also a solid win for Hagler. I think he should be on that list.

Pac can't accomplishments can't be over look either.

For me is Pac, but is pretty close. And, I don't have any problem if people think Hagler is greater. However, I think Pac has a case. I don't think Hagley way greater than Pac.

true. if pac wins against mayweather than we can talk about him being greater, but now there are too many questions. best names on his resume are all retired fighters now which means he beat them past their prime. hatton and cotto were both coming of loses

Hagler was at 160 is whole career so he had to fight everyone.

But he didnt fight the light heavyweights who wanted to fight him, prefering to call out Leonard when he was a welterweight.

Hagler is head and shoulders above. We can see pacquiao, really is very close to WW, so there's no excuse anymore. Pacquiao's accomplishments will forever be tarnished, untill he mans up and fight Mr. Mayweather!
