Roy Jones Jr.... Tainted Legacy

Roy should have retired a long time ago, its just sad that people try to act like his losses came anywhere near the prime of his career. Beating up an old man changes nothing for either fighter, but regardless BHop is an ATG and Roy is the most talented fighter Ive ever had the pleasure of watching.Comment

I see two legacies when I look at Jones career. The pre heavyweight era where he was fantastic and the post heavyweight era where his body paid a heavy price for going up in weight and he was starting to lose his youthful brilliance. I see them as 2 separate careers and this Hopkins fight does little for me. To me it is good pension money for a fighter that was once great.Comment

I think if Jone's KOs Hopkins he'll have a bit of that cinderella man backdrop. But most likely that won't happen, Hopkins will probably carry him for several rounds and either KO him late or win a decision.
I guess we have to ask how much damage did Jones JR do to his legacy? Ali stayed too long but is concidered GOAT HW by many. Holyfield is a joke to everyone now, and i think he may have really hurt his legacy.
I think Jones JR falls into the Mike Tyson Catagory, where his prime will be remembered as unstoppable, and everyone will accept that his later years he was just a shell of himself. That is if he retires sometime soon
Just my OpinionComment

lmao, people forget that nearly every great diminishes greatly as they get older and rack up a lot of losses.
Sugar Ray Robinson is considered the greatest ever and he fought well past it, losing 5 times in 1965 alone.
Ali got his ass handed to him by Holmes something vicious. It was sad, but no one forgot how great ali once was.
Jones was the greatest fighter of the 90's, losing in 2010 doesn't change that.
A lot of these cats on this message board NEVER watched a prime Roy Jones or a Bernard Hopkins, they've only read about it and seen highlights. They have no idea cuz they didn't live through it.Comment

True, but Mike also realized he was no longer competitive long before Roy did, the discussion wasn't a "who's got the better resume", or "who was better tyson or jones" but whether or not Jones is tainting his legacy.
Most people remember Tyson as a badass at the peak of his career, i think people will remember Jones the same way, unless he continues on and on and on like holyfield to the point in which you're begging him as a fan to retire.
Jones lost 5 of his last 10 fights, Tyson lost 3 of his last 10 w/ 2 NC.
Holyfield has lost 5 of his last 10,
Just saying Jones' legacy is teeter on the edge of Tyson-esque of having his prime days always remembered, or moving into holyfield area of "The guy had heart, too much heart and didn't know when to quit, i can't believe they're still giving this guy fights"Comment
