Besides the physical and mental rest, it was also a good business decision.

Let all these guys tear each other apart, then fight the one that comes out on top for all the marbles.

I heard he was starting to rely heavily on pain killers other than Xylocaine---needed a couple of years and went cold turkey to try and kick off the habit.

Because there was no high reward low risk fight left that time.

Ok I'm gonna talk facts when Floyd reitred there was no money in the sport the biggest payday Floyd could have made would have been a De La Hoya rematch but they wasn't tryna give Floyd the money he wanted so his plan was to retire let De La Hoya beat a couple guys then people will say De La Hoya is back and Floyd would get more money for the rematch but the Pacquaio whooped De La Hoya so it messed the plan up

With Cotto first off he Top Rank and Floyd didn't fight any Top Rank fighters buy you see Cotto he let Margarito whoop his ass and that messed up the fight with him and Mayweather because people think Floyd was scared no Floyd wanted that money and wasn't gonna fight Cotto unless there was big money on the table so Floyd was just letting Cotto build himself up to a big star like Pacquiao is now so he could make more off the fight because Cotto Top Rank contract was alomost up but Cotto lost and messed that up

Only one problem with that Margarito also had a big fan base--why didn't he fight him? He fought Marquez didnt he?

Well, there was the Oscar rematch... and Floyd did win, at least on my card, a comfortable points victory over DLH the first time... I think he retired because he lost passion for the sport. If it was really because he didn't wanna face Cotto/Marg he would have at least fought Oscar first, for another $25 + mill, then retired. But I do believe he feared both Miguel and Margarito, to be frank

Ok so now Pacquiao is the big star, why is Floyd yet AGAIN finding excuses not to sign the contract?
