Wow thats interesting, something I didn't realize before in all the years I've been watching boxing is how big the sport has always been in the UK. A lot of American's are somewhat biased against UK and European Boxing in general because we believe the stereotype that American fighters dont get a fair shake there. Irony is that a lot European fighters dont get a fair shake here (De La Hoya-Sturm comes to mind)
Interesting thing for me is that I never concerned myself with whether the judges were fair or not, the younger and sillier me was more offended by the arenas themselves. For whatever reason it seemed the UK and European arenas were dark and dimly lit. For American viewers the dark arenas are unusual, we are used to things being bright and flashy. I can remember changing the channel on fights broadcast from the UK cause I felt they were fighting in the dark lol
With that said, the really dark arenas may be a thing of the past or it may had just be my imagination. I regret that I turned off a few Prince Naseem fights back then just for that silly reason.Comment

That all makes sense, if American fighters are used to scoring/winning one way, then they go to Europe where they score another way, that would make a big difference. In boxing, I think scoring should be universal. Its one of the few things I agree with Harold Letterman on, his 4 criteria for scoring fights.Comment

I mean some gyms have been closed down because of the boroughs (like a small area of a city. kinda like mini states you could say) because boxing is looked bad on.
There was a gym in Dalston that Micahel Watson went to (Near me) He beat Nigel Benn and got Nigel to go to the US to learn some new **** over there (US made him much better because he was used to KO'ing people rather than boxing. Think he was with Duran aswell which was good for him - Legend).
It's only coming back now, but with the lack of money into boxing, it's not free anymore. Amir Khan was on there for abit (ITV), Audley on BBC but he was so **** and did harm.
Sport is big in the uk, we just aren't great at it lol. We have so many sports that people watch, but also do. Cycling, tennis, football, rugby, cricket and then all the other sports. We pretty much do everything in the olympics.
As for the darkness in boxing fights. It still is lol. It's not really dark when sitting in there, but the cameras make it worse. I think it adds to the effect of just making us look in the ring.
As for the US and European fighters, there are home town decisions in everywhere IMO. The US is where the money is at, and to be fair, boxing is all about generating money.
Judging tc is just too vast to be fair. We need a league somehow like the UFC to be better, but that will never happen unfortunately.Comment

Advantage to the guy pressing the fight also must be a new concept, cause Ali would of never won a fight if it was based on being the aggressor. In a way, I think this all goes back to those who sympathized with Hagler in his loss to Leonard, every since then boxers have to deal with being called runners and aggressors are supposedly so noble.Comment
