Cool bro. Sorry I called you a Mayweather fan.
I'm a little grouchy, late night lol.
Plus I'm quite annoyed that Manny is getting some criticism when it is Clottey who made it a boring fight more than him.
Then again, Clottey had to do what he had to do. I like Clottey as a man, good guy.Comment

I was there bro, it was great bro. Nobody around me and from other fans that I was talking to really complained about the fight. But, I am going to watch next week when HBO replays it and see why everybody is negative about the fight.Comment

Wow thats interesting, something I didn't realize before in all the years I've been watching boxing is how big the sport has always been in the UK. A lot of American's are somewhat biased against UK and European Boxing in general because they accept the stereotype that American fighters dont get a fair shake there. Irony is that a lot European fighters dont get a fair shake here (De La Hoya-Sturm comes to mind)Yeah we have the same problem here.
When it was on free TV, we had 8-12 million watching (60 million population)
Now it is on Satelite company where you need subscription. Then you have to pay on top for sports channels, and even a PPV price. This has killed a lot of interest.
One reason apparently it went off Free TV was the Benn and Mccllen fight. After that, ITV stopped showing boxing up until Amir Khan.
Even the BBC only started from the Lewis - Rahman 1 fight with Audley Harrison.
It;s a shame because now it's only easy to get into boxing if you have family and friends rather than TV selling it.
The olympic helps a little though.
As for the PPV, it is mainly due to them being greedy and wanting money. The time zone sucks for us but a good fight or atleast as a fan, 4am is nothing. Although it makes it hard for casual fans to watch though.
Interesting thing for me is that I never concerned myself with whether the judges were fair or not, the younger and sillier me was more offended by the arenas themselves. For whatever reason it seemed the UK and European arenas were dark and dimly lit. For American viewers the dark arenas are unusual, we are used to things being bright and flashy. I can remember changing the channel on fights broadcast from the UK cause I felt they were fighting in the dark lol
With that said, the really dark arenas may be a thing of the past or it may had just be my imagination. I regret that I turned off a few Prince Naseem fights back then just for that silly reason.Last edited by M.I.C.; 03-14-2010, 01:25 PM.Comment
