No announcement yet.
If Pac is so fond of sanctioning rules why ignore them and fight for 147 belt at 145?

Because there's no such thing as a 147lb belt. Its called a WW belt/title, and that weight class is anything between 141-147. Just because Cotto had to come in at 145 doesnt mean it wasnt a WW title bout.
Given the fact that Cotto comes in around 156-160 for a WW fight, all they were trying to do was level out the playing field since Manny would be much lighter and smaller than Cotto on fight night.
Cotto made the weight and said he felt great aftwerwards. Lets not make it seem as if Cotto was dehydrated.
This coming from a big Cotto fan.

I fail to see why you cant understand this, you normally seem pretty bright.
here is my line of thinking:
both Many and Cotto agreed to fight: awesome
both agreed to fight at 145 to make it happen: great MUCH respect to Cotto. Manny not so much BUT if Cotto agreed fine
WBC agrees to make a belt so someone can win a belt: laughable but whatever its not a major belt and I care less
Manny then petitions that Cotto's WBO belt be on the line: not cool when you have the champ not being allowed to use the rules on page 6 of the WBO handbook enabling him to weigh 147lbs. Since he already agreed upon the weight Miguel can either choose to risk the fight or say screw it and fight. He says screw it....warrior indeed Cotto is
thats where I have an issue. You should have never asked a champ to risk his belt without the luxury of being able to go along with the rules of the governing body
let me put it this way
had Cotto said no if they want my title then I want 147 what do you think the lash back would have been on him?
be honest

when pac fought de la hoya both fighters compromised.
when pac fought Hatton there was no need to compromise cause pac felt at home on that division 140lbs.
Now people must know that catch weight with belt on the line has been in boxing for ages and is nothing new. Great matches where make cause of this arrangement between fighters this should not be a surprise to true boxing fans.

Lets not get into what the "rules" are. If a fighter is allowed to enter the ring weighing 160lbs for a WW fight (141-147lbs), something is terribly wrong with the sport and its "rules".

so on one hand you are using the rules to tell me a WW fight is 141-147lbs
then you tell me not to get into what the "rules" are?
ok
and didn't you just shoot yourself in the foot?
if you are saying the "rules" suck then shouldn't it also suck when it comes to testing?
something may be terribly wrong with this sport but it should apply across the board and not for Manny's own convenience

You can come in at whatever weight you want on fight night, And thats the rules of boxing. No where does it say a boxer can put a restriction on another boxer on what he can weight or not weight.

Exactly! The way this sport is run is a damn joke. Rules are rules unless you're a superstar, or theres alot of money involved!
