It depends on the individual, for example Amir Khan going from 135-140 is a natural progression, so his power increases, Bernard Hopkins going to heavyweight, is not natural, so he would probably lose power because he is carrying too much weight for his frame.

The only difference is the official weight, but his fight night weight has been the same. Also you failed that pacquaio in the lower weight had just jab jab straight left, since then he developed far more punches and his combo are far more unpredictable now. So if he been weighting at 147 at fight night for the past 5 years and is a known gym rat and has big calves and large fist(ingredient of a great puncher). The difference between now and back then is that pacquaio isn't draining 20 pounds and then blow up to welterweight at 130. So its very understandable for him to keep his speed. And it ain't like he got one punch knock power at 147 and knocking people out like what Tito did. Really the only fighter he knocked the **** out cold is Hatton. Cotto, and oscar got stopped because of taking too much punishment while they were obviously running out of gas to defend themselves.
Slow down homey. I just stated that I didn't know of another fighter to go up in weight and carry his power. That's why PED speculation surrounds him. I didn't accuse him. And yes, he has revolved into a much better fighter in the few years by incorporating much more to his arsenal. But having said all that the speculation is still there, and he had a chance to denounce all doubters by taking the test. I'm not up here to accuse him of anything. Hell I think the real reason the fight didn't get made wasn't because of either Pac nor Mayweather, but because of that crooked @$$ Arum.

Power is harder to keep at you cut down

Speed is harder to keep as you move up.

Retaining speed and power as you move up or down depends on how you train to put that weight on.

WTF is with this "genetics" bullcrap?

i would think it is different for every person, some gain power, stay the same, or possibly lose power. for instance i do not think a guy like JMM is gaining power by moving up past 135, and i think he is possibly losing a bit, definitely lost a bit of speed.

you gain overall power.....but relative to the larger men at tyhose weights you lose power...........

this happens if u jump multiple divisions..........and it also depends how you are wearing the current weight class u are in....

for example james toney fiought at 160 but used to go in weight drained for every fight at that weight because he used to come down from such a high weight....would still win but would be really inactive and take rds off............when he went up to 168 he was stronger and able to be more active..........but at cruiser his punches had less pop IMO......also he has used steroids in his ascent to HW IMO........

take floyd as an example......he had good power at 130, 135 and even 140.......he had overall more power at 147 but because he has moved through those divisions the power relative to the other 147 pounders is not there.........he can't buzz a guy like Clottey or Margarito or SSM as well or as easily as he could buzz a top guy at 130 or 135........

                      You're a ******. It's called diet. Read about it.

Small minded Americans think the only way anyone can do something that seems physically difficult must be using drugs, because society is so dumbed down and so devoid of hard work and dedication, that it's impossible to think that anything can be done naturally anymore.

Yes people can cut up to 20lbs, NCAA wrestlers cut more than that.

Has it ever entered into your sub-conscious thought, that times change and methods advance?

Get your head out of the ground and get with the times.
